Publisher's summary

Monet Parker wasn't a sucker for a man in uniform. Even if he was a firefighter with dimples deep enough to swim in, and ebony skin painted by the gods.

She was just trying to get her dream internship and prepare herself for a career in social robotics. She had no idea how her life would change with the simple push of a button.

When the elevator taking her to her interview at Real World Robotics stops, Monet isn't sure if she will live, let alone make her interview. She's rescued by Rhys Banks: the gorgeous hunk of a fireman. As much as their magnetism is palpable, Monet is trying to ignore her feelings. Focusing on her career and navigating her chaotic family drama is more than enough excitement for her. Still, it's hard to ignore #FiremanBae when her sister is hosting an Instagram Live video of the rescue and getting the whole internet buzzing.

What happens when the internet becomes a third wheel in Monet's love life? What happens when past hurts, career goals, and family baggage are in conflict with their desires? Will these distractions win out and quash the elevated inferno? Can Monet have it all, including love?

Fantastic

I absolutely loved the story line. It’s great how they overcame the setbacks and were able to find love. The forgiveness is everything. Great book.

Genuine Love & Faith

When Carlotta hit us with the bell hooks quote at the start, I knew I’d be hooked. More than the elements of genuine love, the author gave readers a view of Black women working in STEM, the challenges they encounter while trying to change the world and balance their personal desires (including the part that social media can play in derailing those goals), and family & faith dynamics. Monet and Reese’s growth as individuals and as a unit personify what the journey to real, genuine love for self and others should be. Excellent read!

Great book, Reader incredible slow

Pro: The story itself is cute and fun with some twists and turns. I'm looking forward to the next book by Carlotta Ardell.
Con: I really liked the story, but the only way to listen to it was to speed the narrator up 1.3x-1.5x. At normal speed it was a drag to listen to her. Usually, I don't like to speed up narrators but here I had no choice.

I love a multi talented happening, yes STEM 😍

I gotta say, one of my favorite things about this book before even starting it is the author. imagine reading something written by an award reading robotics professor 🔥🙌🏽 LOVE Carlotta's debut. She was able to balance the sweetness of the love story with the dimensions of the Monet like family and career. So relatable and the progression of the story was like an episode of Station 19! loved these pop culture references. If anything I'd say you may have to listen at 1.05x or 1.1x as the narrator has a slow soothing voice so if you wanna move things along, it's a good speed to move.
