Publisher's summary

Their existence was a secret the government stumbled upon. In exchange for continued autonomy, the paranormals entered an alliance with the government. Now they are A.L.F.A.: Alpha League Federal Agency, sworn to protect and serve humanity.

Brilliant scientist Melinda Caster has discovered a new strain of the Zika virus that stimulates synaptic growth in embryos, causing neuron development beyond normal human levels. Way beyond, like ESP-levels of cognitive abilities. When the lab is broken into, Melinda realizes that someone has been keeping tabs on her research and wants it for themselves. A happy accident destroys critical data before it can fall into the wrong hands, but unfortunately that makes Melinda and her perfect memory a target.

A.L.F.A sends in jaguar-shifter Agent Parish Hamel to discover who is after the virus and why. The beautiful scientist acts like catnip to his senses and throws his mating instincts into overdrive. And then she disappears along with the only sample of the virus.... Now Parish must canvas the darkest areas of the supernatural underground to rescue Melinda, and what he discovers is beyond a paranormal's worst nightmare.

Storyline Issues for Me

I am very disappointed in the way the author made the heroine seem like a stiff board who could not believe the things that she actually saw. In my opinion the “h” could have been more flexible and the story would have been just fine. She was made to look pretty dumb , narcissistic, and closed to other ideas. No I don’t believe growing up in a religious environment would do that to her. She got out young, went to college and traveled the world, so I’m not buying it.

Good read

The narrators did a great job. I really liked both their voices. The story line diverted from what I was expecting and I’m still trying to decide how I feel about it.

Narrators are great but book only okay

I liked the narrators but...
I usually love Millie Taiden's books but this wasn't as good in my opinion.
Melinda to up in your face with the thinking that you either believe what I want and say or I don't like you attitude in the beginning. Hamel is supposedly in a military-tyoe organization but he agrees with everything she says even when she bashes men. I would think he would be more of an alpha type guy especially since he is a shifter. His cat wants to protect and possess her but the man just wants to not ruffle her feathers, so to speak.
Weird things happen in this story that was entertaining to me. I liked the demon world and the extra sensory perception aspects.
I know other people will love this book so I encourage others to give it a try. The book was okay but it just wasn't one that makes me want to read the next book.

Low angst listen

The narrator did a good job. This was quick low angst listen. This story had action, suspense and a hotness factor.

Weird twist

I won’t spoil it, but the twist halfway through was unexpected and unlike Milly Taiden. I found myself laughing at parts that were supposed to be serious because it was soo far outside of what she writes about typically. Felt out of left field. But still an enjoyable listen with good narrators.

Fun exciting paranormal shifter story

Another fun engaging title. This was a refreshing and different take on shifters. Without going into it too much... It was nice to have hints of magic and other "monsters" included

for such a smart woman this heroin was so dumb

I thought about giving up on this book.
small spoiler alert: When a man has come to save you and you hear him talking about how unimportant you are to him, to a demon, maybe there is a reason and you being a scientist should wait for more evidence before you run away and pout.

Good story!

This book was well written and preformed. The storyline is is fast moving but pretty complex. I think this is best enjoyed when you have the time to pay attention to the details that the author has created for us to enjoy . The characters are well developed and likeable. I look forward to reading the next book.
