I know from the Hanne W series that this author is very capable, so, I slogged through a slow and overly complicated beginning to a much more satisfying last third of book. Hope the second book is better throughout. I preferred narrator of English version of Hanne W series cuz the ‘Scandinavian’ accent of narrator speaking English felt truer to the characters being Norwegian. I miss Hanne W and that cast of characters. This new series seems so unrelentingly bleak. And I couldn’t really warm up to any of the characters. But I will proceed the the second book to at least keep my German language skills in practice. And hope that I can learn to like Selma and the new series more.
