In “The Coffin-Maker”, Adrian Prokhoroff, a rigid, unfriendly undertaker, moves his business and his two daughters to a new city. At his housewarming party, he must deal with some of his spookier clientele. And in “The Queen of Spades”, a young man who has always shied away from gambling is intrigued by the story of a Countess who won a large sum of money with a specific set of cards and then never played another hand. Eager to win a fortune for himself, he sets out to find the Countess and extract from her the combination of cards she played in that fateful game.

Good introduction to Pushkin

A good introduction to the style of Pushkin, and there is no better narrator for the Russian Classics than Stephan Rudnicki. His performance makes the works come alive.

Great narrator and book. Lets have many more Russian classics read by Mr Rudnicki please.

well read, actor has an American accent unfortunately. Good diction though. Great stories from Pushkin. He died far too young.

Enjoyable and well narrated

While Russian literature can be a turgid grind , these short stories are nicely structured and some decent twists . As you’d expect with Pushkin the characters are painted well and helped by the excellent narration .

Enjoyable

A nice quick read. Quite monosyllabic to listen to but a good story to pick it up again.

Interesting and memorable

An interesting collection of short stories by Pushkin. All seem to be unabridged with the exception of "Marie", also known as the Captain's daughter, which seems to have been cut by about 30%. It's a little disappointing this was done.

Well-narrated by Rudnicki.

Nice stories well read

I found these stories to be very enjoyable and with nice narration.
Nothing outstanding but definitely worth listening to if you like Russian literature.
