Publisher's summary

Road rash and Jack meets handcuffs and street smarts.

I am a wandering disaster.

A hedonist, a lover, a son, and a rebel.

My name is Yuma.

I’m sober enough to see the need for redemption, but too blind to realize I already found it.

I am an independent seeker.

An overachiever, a friend, a misfit, and a cop.

My name is Lissie.

I’m determined enough to find acceptance, but too stubborn to see all I need is my own.

We shouldn’t get involved - all the odds are against us - but when bodies turn up on common ground and lines between duty and purpose get blurred, our future becomes clear.

An enjoyable listen

I liked the storyline in this book and the moderate level of suspense in the plot. It wasn’t an overly gripping mystery, but was interesting enough to keep me wanting to know more. Lissie and Yuma were a good match, both recovering alcoholics trying to stay sober and able to support each other through that. Their characters had good chemistry and the supporting characters in the book were all colorful and interesting in their own rights.

The narration was pretty good overall. The pronunciation of character names should be consistent throughout the books, though. Ouray’s name, for example, is pronounced by Tom Campbell differently than it was in HWY 550, Ouray’s book from the Rock Point series. There was also one female voice that Mr. Campbell did that was really nasal and kind of cringey (it was a minor part and thankfully not the voice for Lissie.) I’d categorize these things as bothersome, but not to the level that they significantly impacted my enjoyment of the book.

I haven’t yet listened to the first book in this series, but I was familiar with the characters because I listened to (and loved) all of the Rock Point series. That said, I think this book would be fine for someone coming in cold and listening to it as a stand-alone. It’s nice to have some character familiarity, but I don’t feel it’s necessary in order for someone to enjoy this book.

I love that Freya writes mature, relatable characters. She gives you all of the romance and steam without all the unnecessary angst and juvenile behavior. Whether you pick this book up as a stand-alone or part of the series, give this one a shot. Overall I found it a good listen.

love it

Freya Barker has a way with developing the characters and romance in her stories. A combination of intrigue, danger, secrets, enough to keep th is story interesting. A murder investigation, a story of losing a friend and gaining a family. The struggles of alcoholism and staying clean are some of the themes in this story.
Tom Campbell and Caren Naess narration is very good. They depicted each character with emotion, perfectly telling THIS story. I was gifted this audio and offered my honest opinion.

Another winner

Freya Barker does it again! Another great installment in the small town of Durango. Love this couple and the life they discover together.

Narration was great. Characters well voiced and fit the story well.

This will make the “re-listen” list.

A Fabulous Series Continues!

The attraction between Lissie, a police detective new to town and Yuma, a member of the local Arrow’s Edge MC is instant and it burns hot! It’s also a bad idea. They shouldn’t get involved. Both are in in recovery and both are trying to find their way through this new normal. Then bodies start turning up in town, very dead bodies! Edge of Darkness is a love story, wrapped around a mystery, surrounded by action and intrigue! I can’t go into plot details for fear of indulging in spoilers, just know that story was very well balanced, fresh, interesting, and featured a full emotional experience! Now the characters, WOW! I love how throughly developed, complex, and multidimensional the characters were. I really felt as if I got to know them. To me, they felt very real and the dialogue they spoke via excellent narration not only held my interest, but it rang true and moved the story forward beautifully! I throughly enjoyed every aspect of this one and can’t wait for book 3! Five fabulous stars!

Yesss! Love when broken ppl get their HEA!

We know from prior books, that Yuma was a bit of a hothead...and out of control. This book starts off with him back from rehab and working on his road to recovery as an alcoholic. Then he meets the newest detective of Durango PD, Lissie Bucco. Lissie has her own secrets, one of which is that she is also a recovering alcoholic. The other, she is searching for her childhood friend who disappeared in Durango. When her latest case intersects with the MC, can Yuma and Lissie hold on to their fledgling relationship? Love the camaraderie of the Arrow’s Edge Club. Some sad moments but, it all worked out in the end.

Brilliantly Consuming! Fantastic Story & Listen🎧

Freya Barker blows me away with another amazing novel set in her “Arrow’s Edge MC” world, the second book in the series, it can be enjoyed on its own but I highly recommend the first book, “Edge of Reason”, not only is it an amazing, not to be missed story, but characters cross over into each other’s book and it is great to see them again, like seeing an old friend. There is something special about this MC and some of the things I love about it are the dynamics and uniqueness of it and its members, also loving their maturity, some have been around the block a few times and their wisdom and experience reflects that. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they are likable and easy to care about too. James “Yuma” Wells is supposed to be the club’s Sergeant of Arms, but did not take his position seriously enough. He’d rather get lost in the bottle and in mindless trysts with willing partners. A wake up call sets him straight and he is taking his sobriety seriously. He is managing one of the club’s apartment houses. Elizabeth “Lissie” Bucco, a detective who left her department in N.M., she had her reasons to leave, she also had her reasons to join this police department in Colorado, it was the last known location of her friend who seems to have disappeared. She finally gets an apartment and Yuma is the first person she meets and there is an instant attraction. Lissie is a strong and independent women but she has her insecurities and struggles, it was easy for her to get lost in the bottle but she has been sober for almost now. And it surprised Yuma to see her at an AA meeting, the two have more in common than they thought. And when she lands a case investigating dug up bodies on a construction site their two worlds meet again. I loved how everything played out in this book, the story is brilliantly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, mystery, twists and turns, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and a beautiful romance. Freya Barker, thank you for another outstanding story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, Freya Barker cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters and story to life. Caren Naes and Tom Campbell are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit the character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable in every role they played and just as I pictured the characters to sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. The two entertaining storytellers were a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another wonderful listen.

Love Yuma’s story

This is another great story by a great writer. It is the second in this series and a spin off from another series but is a stand alone story. Yuma and Lissie are characters that feel real to you. Yuma is putting his life back together after being in the bottle most of it. Lissie is starting over after some issues in her last precinct and her own struggles. Since Yuma is trying to remake himself, even though he is attracted to Lissie he tries to avoid feeling more with her. It was wonderful reading their struggles and how even though they are ‘opposites’ they belong together. Always a pleasure to read these stories and am looking forward to more. Don’t miss out and one click this book.

The narrators are fantastic and fit the characters for me.

Not all MC are bad!

This being book 2 has now shown me that there are nasty MC groups and honest ones! Yuma has stepped away to get himself clean and sober but now has a guilt for doing so because of his mothers health! He keeps himself busy fixing the apartments his MC owns! One of the newest residents there Lissie also recovering alcoholic keeps Yuma on his toes! When Lissie job as a detective crosses paths with Yuma MC he questions her honest intentions! The drama that breaks out and information becoming unburied puts Lissie into real danger!
Freya has wrote another fantastic story that keeps you on your toes through out! Caren and Tom read this book with all the emotions so expertly you felt it all!

Great Story Narration was just OK.

I loved the story and the series. The male narrator was great but the female narrator not. She sounded like she was reading a kids book.
