The sun-side of the world is baked with endless sunshine, the night-side is freezing and full of strange creatures. Living in an inhabitable zone on the edge of their world, a shadow-line between night and day, nomadic peoples roam the planet. It is these inhabitants Earth’s forces must protect.

Three fleets converge: the Mogwa, the Skay, and Earth’s growing armada. Peace talks are held, but then McGill opens his big mouth, and things go badly....

Please give more depth to McGill.

I was in the service for 20yrs and his character needs to mature as a leader and not act like some 3-4 year enlistee with nothing going for him but booze and women. His character would be great if he never had responsibilities as a leader. I did a marathon of all the books and I feel their is definitely lacking in character building as a leader.

We know what we are getting and hot damn it’s fun

At this point in the adventures of old James McGill the series should be familiar to most. McGill, our impressively lazy, charismatic, brutal, and truth bending hero is once again in the thick of things.

Larson has set up a very interesting galaxy. I especially enjoyed the way he set up these intricate political situations. Melding different cultures and interests beautifully. With that said, you shouldn’t expect this to be some great political adventure. Our narrator is, by his very nature, a degenerate. Who puts the same level of effort into learning that a college student places into getting up before 10 am.

The world building here isn’t extravagant, rather, like all the books in the series it’s a slow build on a pile of previous information.

Frankly though, what we are all here for is McGill, his behavior in this book is on par with his best in previous adventures. If you made it this far, you will love this book. I have no doubt of that.

Now, it’s dawning on me that I have to wait another year (or more) for the next book. I’m gonna find me a drink.

Starts a bit slow and corny, but picks up later

Good continuation, not great. Almost no development to the series' universe, a one mission story with familiar characters. I wish B.V. would progress us through the universe and make humans destined for something more than fighting single campaigns and following McGill through his predictable escapades. I have listened to all books in this series so far, this one is a middle of the pack.

B.V. Larson has an amazing imagination! Mark Boyett is a master of dialects and accents. it was amazing how he became every single character. Great job I'm going to start reading the rest of the series now.
