In search of Eckhart Tolle's lost years: This unauthorized biography of Eckhart Tolle, the celebrated author of The Power of Now, A New Earth, and Stillness Speaks, among other works, presents a series of known - and not-so-known - facts about his early life, his spiritual awakening, and his long and winding quest to understand the inner transformation he experienced as a young man.
It is the result of several years of research and mainly concentrates on the period before he became the best-selling author and world-famous spiritual teacher for which he is presently known.
As most people know, Eckhart Tolle was 29 when he experienced the sudden awakening that triggered his avid journey into spiritualism, prior to which he had suffered from severe anxiety attacks and suicidal depression ever since his early childhood. However, a vast number of people still ignore that it took him around a decade to truly understand the event that triggered his personal transformation, plus another 10 years to finally write and publish his first book, The Power of Now.
Truth is, at first, he was clueless about what had actually occurred to him on the night he “awakened”, as he later confessed in an Oprah Winfrey interview published in O Magazine:
“I didn’t really understand the process.... All I knew was I was so peaceful. Where did it come from? That was all I knew. It took me years to understand the process behind it.”
And, when interviewed by John W. Parker for his book Dialogues with Emerging Spiritual Teachers, he added: “I knew, of course, that something profoundly significant had happened to me, but I didn't understand it at all.
“It wasn't until several years later, after I had read spiritual texts and spent time with spiritual teachers, that I realized that what everybody was looking for had already happened to me.”

I'm glado I got this book.
I was surprised to learn from this book that during his so-called drifting years in London Eckhart Tolle not only spent time with Buddhist monks and even stayed in Buddhist monasteries but also that thanks to his conversations with them (as well as other spiritual teachers) he understood his own transformation. I'm glado I got this book.
