Publisher's summary

Reese Eddings has enough to do just keeping her rattletrap merchant vessel, the TMS Earthrise, profitable enough to pay food for herself and her micro-crew. So when a mysterious benefactor from her past shows up demanding she rescue a man from slavers, her first reaction is to say "NO!" And then to remember that she sort of promised to repay the loan. But she doesn't remember signing up to tangle with pirates and slavers over a space elf prince…

Good adventure with characters with depth.

If you liked Firefly, you will like this story. Interesting characters in an engaging story.

great story, odd choice

I love this book, but I had a hard time listening to it because of the narrator. I find it off putting when a story about a girl is narrated by a guy... especially a guy who sounds like he should be narrating is Zane Grey novel. His scratchy and weathered voice just doesn't fit with the space fantasy theme.

Great story, difficult narration

Loved the story, found the narrator's voice to be distracting and annoying. I would not buy another book with this narrator, too difficult to listen to.

great and entertaining story....

I loved the story, fun, entertaining, suspenseful and exciting!
but the reader was good with the characters voices, but monotone otherwise.
it would have been better if he didn't sound like he was wispering the whole time.

Couldn't stop listening

The narrator put me off at first with the changing volume of characters and the voice he chose for the captain, BUT after awhile it really grew on me. Every character is distinct and he captures the attitudes of the scenes and action very well.

The story takes you to 4 world's and through space. Loved all the different species.

Monotone

the book would be better if the narrator wasn't so monotone. Maybe get a different narrator?

Firefly Fans will love this!

Would you listen to Earthrise again? Why?

Finally a story that is fun, full of adventure, lots of crazy characters. Well, developed characters that win you over immediately and the way in which scenes are laid out makes us feel right at home with them all! Which is amazing seeing as how everything is happening in a futuristic other world of outer space. Haven't liked a new Sci-Fi story so much since Star Wars!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Earthrise?

When the Eldridge discovered what the crystals really were.

What does Daniel Dorse bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I believe he brought out the depths and descriptions is such a vivid manner as though he were a grandfather sharing stories from his own past to his family.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no. Yes because i was enjoying where it took me and no because it was a two day long read .

Any additional comments?

I really got to know the characters well by the end and only wished that Reese wasn't so combative. I liked her better when she was calmer.

Narrator's voice did not work for this good story

I enjoyed the universe in which this story was set and grew to really like the characters. However, I hated the narration and production of it. First, his voice just did not fit the characters. It always seemed like he was trying to stage whisper. His voice also did not work for the female characters and made them sound more like they were being parodied. it was also hard to differentiate between a couple of the characters. I know Reece was supposed to have a raspy voice, but his portrayal was too raspy and sometimes made her hard to understand. I think his voice was just too deep.

The story was interesting but due to the narration it was sometimes tedious or hard to follow, particularly during action scenes. I think this needs to be read in print form or be narrated by someone else, unfortunately. I want to read the next in the series because I do really like the characters but I don't think I can handle 11 more hours of this narrator!

Narration faltered but thought-provoking story

Male narrator's voice for strong female protagonist sounded unpleasantly like a hoarse old man. Voices for other characters were distinctive and seemed to fit. Multi-culturAL story was interesting and engaging.
