Publisher's summary

Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world's record, three-mile-deep mine shaft. EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources, and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure. But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting...and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.

Hard to empathize with any character.

Would you try another book from Scott Sigler and/or Ray Porter?

Of course. Ray Porter never disappoints and maybe next time Scott Sigler would include some main characters that I would give a damn about.

What did you like best about this story?

The overall concept of aliens coming to earth for refuge.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the mountain was destroyed. Thank god it's done.

Was Earthcore worth the listening time?

Yes and No. Yes because the story was interesting, but no because I disliked the characters so very much, that I really could not care how the book ended or what happened to any of them.

Any additional comments?

Good enough to keep me listening. But, one by one I kept hoping one character after another would die is some horrible way. With the exception of one or two minor characters they were people I would not want in my life. Self absorbed selfish, criminals, bullies and psychopaths.

A thrilling ride to the underground.

Great story and narration. Not the hard science novel I was looking for but the pacing of the journey into the earth and cast of characters was interesting enough to get me to the end with a satisfied feeling.

ANOTHER GREAT ONE FROM SCOTT SIGLER!

I've been a huge fan of Scott since Infected, and I'm always waiting for his next novel to come out! Earthcore ran deep with the storyline, giving enough of each character to find out which ones you'd stick with to the end. It had action, a little bit of romance, and of course sci-fi fun and brutality! If you've enjoyed his previous works this is another one you need to get!

And another one!

What's not in this story? Greed, familial love, lust for power and knowledge. And then after all of that, an alien race, that's not taking names. This Junkie was sated!!

Excellent book - even better to revisit these years later

As an Original Junkie, I’ve been listening to Scott Sigler’s podcasted novels from the beginning and remember when this was released the first time. If you are caught up with Scott’s GFL novels and go back to listen to it again, it gives the novel a whole new life. And Ray Porter’s narration is really great.

Narrator Ray Porter

I’ve listened to more than a half dozen books narrated by Ray Porter. Always at the top of my list in performance and story. He seems only to pick real winners. I am actually picking from works he narrated, almost exclusively. Great job Ray!
BTW the author did a bang up job, but still, Ray picked him...

Scott's best book by far!

I didn't know what to expect when I jumped into this reading the description. He keeps it pretty vague and I'm glad he did. This is a pretty long listen but I was never bored. Every character has an interesting tale to follow.

I just wish there was a bit more tie in to the rest of the Siglerverse. It seems like the world should have been affected more heavily by the infected trilogy. If nothing else I think there should have been characters that at least talked about it together in the same way that people might have a conversation about where they were on 9/11 for years after it happened.

I loved it!

*SPOILERS*
I kept searching for a sequel! This was just a great book complete with everything you could want in a sci-fi book: alien technology, an evil genius you love to hate, etc. I really enjoyed this book. Even months later when I think about it, I’m reminded of the weird little psychedelic rocktopi and the creepy droid-like robot flying spies and I remember how this book occupied my brain for a while!
