Publisher's Summary

Paralegal and former rodeo queen Emily only wants two little things. The first is to adopt Betsy - the girl who has stolen her heart but could be deported to Mexico at any time. The other is a second chance with her boss Jack, a smolderingly hot and mysterious criminal defense attorney in Amarillo who runs his family's horse ranch in New Mexico on the side.

But before Emily can dare to hope for either (or both), the obstacles between them and her mount: two runaway teenagers, an aging exotic dancer, and a dead trucker torpedo a dinner with Jack. She and Jack catch their client - who's charged with assaulting an officer - selling stolen goods. And to top it all off, Betsy's zealously religious and overly protective foster parents sic some questionable cops on Emily to destroy her reputation.

Emily just wants to silence all the noise and focus on her priorities: Betsy and Jack. But then the phone rings. It's the two runaways, with an enormous secret and a desperate plea for help. They convince Emily that she's the only one they can trust, forcing her into a horrible choice: risking the lives of these two teens, or jeopardizing her own chance at a life with the two people she cares about most.

Quirky, fun, mysterious & packed full of everything!

Emily has gone through so much and now all she wants is to adopt Betsy, see the kids Greg & Farrah safe and discover how Jack really feels about her. Is that too much to ask? In anyone else’s world, no but this is Emily so nothing is ever that easy. Let the adventure begin, murders ensue and let’s not forget about all the mayhem!

Pamela Fagan Hutchins stories always have a bit of everything for everyone. A Fun Romance

This is a lovely, intriguing, suspenseful and fun romance story. The characters are lovable and well written. You'll laugh, cringe, hold your breath and love all that happens in this book. I enjoyed following Emily and Jack on their way to their HEA. I didn't always care for Emily but she does manage to win me over by the end. The narration was okay. Tracy Hundley needs to work more on varying her voice between characters but she did do well with the emotions. Her narration didn't hurt the story but didn't exactly bring the story to life for me. I'd be willing to give her another chance though. Overall, a fun way to pass some time.

Great series

I enjoy series books and this series is fun, entertaining yet descriptive about the area in which the story takes place. I appreciation the positive light the author shed on the CPS worker and the work done with children. I highly recommend the book.

Another go get them book

I really enjoyed this book and think they just better and better. I enjoyed the Katie series but think the Emily books have just stepped it up another level. I love the familial characters putting in a appearance. Even though I had worked out the mystery it was fun getting there with Emily and the gang.
In this book Emily a paralegal is once again playing detective when two run away children ask her help after witnessing a murder, but not the help she should be providing like taking them to the police. No they want help running away,as far as she can take them so they don't become the killers next victim. Emily is torn because the teenagers need her help but so does Betsy the little girl she is trying to adopt and she doesn't want to jeopardize that. Especially as Betsy foster mum has all ready could the police on her about stalking the little girl. Jack has his own trouble trying to keep his clients out of jail and track down a thief that is stealing from home. When Emily stumbles on another body they realise that the killer is playing for keeps and it might not just be the children that are in real trouble.
I liked the narrator but I started with the Katie books so I am use to her voice for the character of Ava and even thoughTracy was good with everyone else, she didn't quite have the same island accent I have got use to.
