Great new fantasy series

What did you like best about this story?

This is a strong fantasy series - complex-but-still-human (and elfish!) characters, compelling plot, great finish. I look forward to continuing the series!

Have you listened to any of Adam Verner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The only thing that bugs me about the narration is the weird Irish/Swedish accent for 2 of the main characters, but after time I got used to it.

Awesome!!!

I'm a huge Brandon Sanderson fan. I listened to an earlier work and could tell he wasn't quite as polished, as I expected. I expected the same with Duskfall, but this book does not have that feel. Chris Husberg has achieved excellence with his first book. I loved ALL of it. Great content and great narration. I'm truly pleasantly amazed!!

Better Than Expected

I'm normally not very into classic-esque fantasy books, but this one was pretty darn good. can't wait to start on the next one. I really want more background for Astrid, and for Winter to shut up for once.

A good story

The story is a solid one. It is as much character driven as it is plot driven. Neither character motivations nor fighting sequences seem weird or forced, as happens in some novels.

The performance was not what I expected. It was delivered like a storytelling piece. The delivery was smooth, but engaging. Obviously, not Mr. Verner's first rodeo.

Great start to new epic fantasy

I enjoyed this more than I expected. It is a powerful debut for a new author. Great characters, strong plot, and vivid writing makes this an entertaining book.

If you read fantasy to escape, this may not be the book for you.

I made it about four hours into Duskfall. It is well-paced, has interesting sociological dichotomies both among magic users and non users, and establishes an amnesiac mystery that drives the plot along nicely. That said, in four hours it also delves into the chilling and horrifying ways an addict's personality, motivations and justifications shift as the addiction takes hold. I found that aspect of the book much too realistic, and had no desire to keep listening as the addict tumbled further toward rock bottom. So I stopped, and felt quite relieved to leave the book unfinished. If addiction is not an issue that is too close to home for you, then I commend this book to you. Otherwise, I suggest you find another listen.
