Whatever happened to Jane Roe's baby? Norma McCorvey, of Caddo-Comanche heritage, did not terminate the pregnancy that led her to become the anonymous plaintiff of the landmark U.S. supreme court women's rights case Roe v Wade because in 1971, when the motion was first argued, abortion in the U.S. was illegal. The Jane Roe real-life child would now be a woman in her late 40s, the potential of her polarizing celebrity unknown to her. A religious rights splinter group has blackmailed its way into learning the identity of the Roe baby, the product of a closed adoption.

Publisher's Summary
Detective John Stark approaches the PI team of Griff Cole and Britt Callahan with a postcard he’s sure is from his estranged daughter, Kira. She’s been listed as a runaway for three years by Portland, Maine Police but John isn’t convinced that her continued absence is by choice.
As Stark’s long-time friends, Cole and Callahan, agree to look into the postcard marked only with the letters OK. The postmark leads them to Oracles of the Kingdom, a farm where women sell fresh produce in return for a fresh start with God. But nothing seems right about the town or the farm and Britt goes undercover to look for Kira. Once inside, she realizes that Oracles of the Kingdom is not the refuge it appears.

Loved!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This was an amazing story! I did not realize that it was book 2 in a series until about halfway through. It is a good thing that you did not need to experience book 1 because I would have been totally lost. This is a story about human trafficking and there are a few sensitive scenes in the book. If you are easily triggered, do not get this book.
I loved the characters. Britt is so relatable to me. The way she sees herself and feels she needs to prove herself to the world and herself is like looking in the mirror. I felt for her.
The narrator was really good but I had to speed up to about 1.4x speed to get a more "normal' pace.

Suspenseful, exciting
The story itself is very interesting. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to complete the audio version as the narrator wasn't someone I could bring myself to listen to - unduly stiff and mechanical for a fiction book.
However, I enjoyed the story so much I ended up getting the actual book to read, and it's a great read!
I was provided this book in exchange for an honest review.

I like this series very much. This book made my heart hurt for all the girls in this situation. Ms. Hale shone a very bright light on a very dark subject and did it very well.

Durable Goods
When their good friend detective Stark comes to private investigators Cole and Callahan with a lead on his missing daughter the two decide to help. Britt goes undercover and gets herself taken to a farm for wayward woman but soon finds that it is much more than it seems. Soon Britt is in over her head and finds herself being sold to those who traffic in women and sex. She must endure the worst and is determined to survive and find her friends daughter.
This story has an interesting plot, but it missed the mark for me. Britt the main character is a PI but lacks the know how and the smarts. She goes undercover and is soon over her head. She constantly gets herself into trouble that could have been circumvented. Also, there are many scenes where she is hurt badly and after a quick amount of time it magically disappears where earlier she could barely stand or stay conscious. Britt takes a lot of risks and somehow gets away with things that really would not have been so easy. Everything comes down to luck with her, whether it is bad or good luck she never seems to use her brains. Narrator Kathleen Miranti keeps the dialogue moving at a good pace, but I did not like her character voices.

Expendables
I was given this title for free for an unbiased and honest review.
A harrowing story of human trafficking and sex trade. As we have so many things to worry about today in society, this book seems like it could have been ripped from the headlines. Young girls taken from the street and promised a better life only to find things are not as they seem. Be aware that there is a lot of sex and violence in this story but it is well handled and opens eyes to what is going on behind closed doors today. The story was well paced and kept the listener involved and needing to know what happened next. A small note, as I listen to a lot of audiobooks, the quality of the recording was not as good as I would have liked and as kind of fuzzy. Overall, I enjoyed the story and would listen to more of Hale's books.

Suspenseful Thriller
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I could not stop listening to this book. I had to know what was happening to Britt. I did not love the narrator though more my preference than anything. I could follow the story just fine. The story was intense and graphic at times. It broke my heart. I would definitely read more by this author.

Very suspenseful
This is a very suspenseful thriller, but I don't feel that I got to know the characters very well. And Britt, in particular, has a couple of personality traits that make her hard to like. According to the closing credits, this is the second book in the series, so perhaps I might have gotten to know the characters better if I'd read the first book in the series ahead of this one. I hope to remedy that.
Kathleen Miranti's narration is quite satisfactory. Her character voices aren't particularly distinctive and she doesn't do accents, but I can't recall any instance where I couldn't follow dialog.
