Publisher's summary

A powerful dungeon. A sheep-herder turned Noble. Their path to ascendance through cultivation.

Conquering dungeons and using them to grow has long been the most efficient way to become a powerful adventurer. The only thing keeping the process from being easy is the Beasts that inhabit these places. Questions plague those entering this particular place of power: Where do the "rewards" of weapons, armor, and heavy gold coins come from? Why is a fluffy bunny charging at me? For abyss-sake, why are there so many monsters?

Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Core, a soul forced against his will into a magical stone. With the help of an energetic friend, Cal grows a dungeon around himself to bring in new sources of power.

When a threat he doesn't fully comprehend bares its many teeth, Cal is determined to survive the attempt on his life. Unfortunately for adventurers, the only way for him to achieve his goal is to eat anyone that enters his depths.

The back and forth is AWESOME!!!!

Would you listen to Dungeon Born again? Why?

Yes, I would. It's an interesting format and story. The two perspectives of the story make it go hand in hand and just enhance the whole of it.

What did you like best about this story?

The slow progress of the story makes it come to life, as if you are actually there learning with the main character.

Which character – as performed by Vikas Adam – was your favorite?

Cal being the main character is a must but, I liked Danni Cause she's the voice of reason in the book, but her sarcasm is awesome.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Most definitely, if I could have I would have done so from the beginning I can't wait for the second one. It's going to drive me nuts.

Inexplicably entertaining

I honestly don't know why I enjoyed this audiobook so much. I should be calling it vapid. I should be saying there was so much exposition it read like a game manual. I should be complaining about lack of character depth and likeability. But for some bizarre reason, none of this bothered me. I frolicked through this audiobook quickly and happily and with little complaint.

Ok, ok, maybe I do know the reason: Vikas Adam. His lighthearted narration and playful characters set the listener's expectations for the book - romping fun without much substance. He smoothed over any rough patches in the writing with his tone and inflection and really made it a performance. He did wonders with thin material.

I really liked the unique perspective of the dungeon itself, and it made the exposition bearable. I mean really, what else can you do with a dungeon but talk? Dani truly was the little wisp companion that you have in video games that explains the mechanics to the player. I liked the details of the world (another reason I probably didn't mind the monologues of explanation), but I can see now non-RPG people might be turned off by it. The human/adventurer character Dale was not very likeable or interesting (kind of an arse if you ask me), so if you're not into lit-RPG, there's not much else to carry the story.

If you like the genre, definitely give this a try! I will definitely be getting the next installment.

quite impressive

I'm definitely going to buy the next one.

That said, I've read/listened to a lot of very bad dungeon core books, and a LOT of VERY BAD cultivation books, so I didn't hold much hope for this suggestion, but hell if it didn't impress.

Fantastic listen!

The story and concept are very interesting, and the narrator does a good job with the voices. He makes a few mistakes here and there, but overall the performance is great! I heard through the book in about 3-4 sittings. GREAT book! Can't wait to listen to the next one!

Surprised

I didn't think I would like this book but bought it on a whim. I am so glad I did. I couldn't stop listening waiting to see what the Clay came up with next and how it would help others to grow. I am ready for the next book and have already preordered it. Highly recommend this book.

Great Value , neat story

Where does Dungeon Born rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I believe this is a newer Author and what a great book, there is some holes but hopefully she will fill them in future books.. but some over simplifications and some deep dives into other things that don't seem to advance the story.

a very unique story

Most stories follow the life of an adventurer. this story takes you along the story of a dungeon itself and those who are affected by it. definitely worth picking up if you like fantasy novels with an RPG style addition.
