Publisher's Summary

As the leader of the VC Warriors Cincinnati branch, Duncan Roark has devoted his long life to the Warriors he calls brothers and to the Vampire Council, protecting innocents of both the vampire and human race. Things change suddenly when it is ordered that he and his fellow Warriors train human social workers to protect themselves in their new world of vampires. Falling in love with a human was something Duncan never thought possible, but love her he did. Now, instead of being the ruthless leader he was trained to be, his focus has turned to finding the woman he loved and let go.

Pam Braxton is outgoing and loves her job working with children. But when she realizes her live in boyfriend, Kenny Lawrence, has been using her and her job for his illegal activities, she becomes withdrawn and her world is turned upside down. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, she stays, trying to learn more of his betrayal so she could see him punished. That decision sucks her deeper into a relationship that has turned dangerous and abusive. Overhearing a plot that would put everyone she cares about at risk, she finds the courage to try to stop the monster who has threatened her friends and the man she truly loves. Now Pam is on the run, alone, with a secret that could change the already unbalanced world of vampires and humans.

As Duncan searches for Pam, the threat of losing his leadership role has the other Warriors worried, but their loyalty for Duncan is strong and they stand behind him. Duncan's search is relentless; he knows he is not the only one looking for Pam. Even with his responsibilities slipping, he puts it all on the line to find the only woman he has ever loved. In a race against time, Duncan fights to find Pam before her past catches up to her. The Warrior's path is clear: Find the woman he loves before the past finds her first.

Never boring

I like how the author gives you a multi POV on all the characters. This helps me get to know them and look forward to the next book. I didn't care much for Duncan and Pam. They are good together but they weren't really a couple I was interested in. I am more ready for Sid, Sloan, Slade, and Adam. I do love the complete devotion the heros have for their girls though. Sid made me lol so I hope his book comes out on Audible soon.

These seem to get better as the series continues.

Overall I enjoyed this book and I think I've enjoyed the series a little more with each one. There is an underlying plot that continues onto the next with one main love story woven in. It's not deep or overly complex but is a decent listen with a pretty good narrator. Some of my favorites are below but I think this series so far is worth a credit. Other PRN books I think are fantastic are anything by Jeaniene Frost (especially the Night Huntress/Prince/Rebel series), Heather Hunter's Irin Chronicles (really beautifully written and narrated), Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardian Series, Jacqueline Frank's Nightwalker Series, Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series (series turns amazing at book 3, get past the bad narration of the first two books, trust me!), Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter Series, J. D. Tyler's Alpha Pack Series and Tessa Dawn's Blood Curse series (very dark take on vampires). Patricia Brigg's Alpha and Omega series is really good too, thou more just paranormal than a PRN, romance is subtle but totally worth a listen unless you require steam. Most of these are available in the Escape Package which is a bonus if you like to binge.

In the world of vampires and humans

I didn’t realize this was book 3 in the series when I bought it; I think you would get more out of it if read in sequence. The Publishers Summary attempts to fill in the background history instead of giving a description of current action. I’m not a fan of P.C. Cast, but this book reminded me of the style of the only book of hers that I read. Except this is not YA. I would rate this book as simmering, not sizzling. KAFER does an OK job of narration, but is a little weak on female voices.

Lots of fun reading

Absolutely love this book and Jeffrey Kafer, narrator. I'm unable to use my eyes much so Whispersync is my only way to read and also listen.

Need more

Like the first two books in this series, there is plenty suspense, love, action and interaction between characters. I like that you get insight into all the characters.

Another Gripping Story In This Addictive Series

I am already a big fan of this series, having read the Kindle version of Duncan a few times. You can read my review on Amazon, my WordPress blog Flora's Musings... and on Goodreads. I just wanted to add my congratulations for this audio version. I loved the way Jeffrey Kefer narrated the book; his pace, tone and performance have certainly added an extra dimension that kept me hooked, not wanting to turn it off.
