Publisher's summary

Washington, D.C., capital of an empire. Powerful. Exhilarating. Corrupt. And in the shadows, vampires far older than the nation itself.

A power unto himself, Duncan has served at Raphael's side for 150 years. But long laid plans have finally borne fruit, and the time has come for Duncan to leave Raphael and tackle the greatest challenge of his life. He will face treacherous vampires and murderous humans. He will rock the halls of human power if necessary. But Washington, D.C. will be his.

Emma Duquet cares nothing for vampire politics. She just wants to find her missing roommate and best friend, Lacey. But Lacey's been playing with vampires of a particularly dangerous kind, and Emma will have to deal with the new vampire in town if she's going to find her friend.

Battling powerful enemies who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets, Duncan and Emma will dig beneath the corruption and depravity that is Washington, D.C. and uncover the most heinous conspiracy of all.

Love this series.......

I need to get used to a new narrator, especially being a male voice. Now just waiting for the rest of the series to be released on audible.

NEW STORY EVERY TIME, KEEPING UP THE PACE!!

Any additional comments?

Duncan was ready to take on a territory and Lordship of his own... and he got more than he bargained for. What was uncovered in his new DC territory as Ambassador was more evil than any of them imagined. Perfect "untimed timing" allowed Emma to walk right into the compound and into Duncan, unaware he had taken over. In search of her best friend, she needs their help.

Admirable writing and imaginative storylines make every one of these books a winner.

Love Nick J Russo - great narrator change!

I love Nick in his work with other authors and I bought this because I love his work so much. I'm a big DB Reynolds fan and he did her proud.

This is a fun series with a great new narrator!

I hope we see more of him!

Duncan comes into his own.

If you could sum up Duncan in three words, what would they be?

Benevolent smart strategist

What did you like best about this story?

I like the fact that Duncan gets his own territory. I was sad he left Cyn and Rafael because Duncan made such a GREAT lieutenant, but there are always changes. I liked the fact that his history with Rafael was revealed and how he was recruited into Rafael's service.

Did Nick J. Russo do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

He did fine, though I would have liked a little more variation.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The fear of when Duncan was trapped in the mansion.

Another Wonderful Edition to Vampires in America

I have been waiting for this book to be in audio. I love this series and have listened to the first four many times.

In this book, Raphael's Lt and right hand man have decided to put the next phase of their plan into motion with Duncan taking over the D.C. residence of the Vampire Ambassador. Things are really rotten and Duncan finds that he needs to clean up the mess left by his predecessor.

And then there's Emma, another lawyer, working on capital hill and trying to find out what happened to her friend. Not so much fireworks (fights and arguments), but a steady attraction between two strong characters which was nice to "watch" unfold.

I was worried about the change in narrators as I have really enjoyed Traci Odom's narration, but Nick Russo has stepped up to the plate and hit one out of the ball park and is a wonderful edition to the Vampires in America family. I can also understand the change in narrators as the focus is shifting from Cyn and Raphael and onto new male vampires who each have back stories and battles of their own. In this book and those that follow, you hear from the male character as much if not more than the female lead.

I'm looking forward to the next audio book.

A solid Paranormal Romance Series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Having not read or listened to the first books, I was unsure what to expect, especially coming into the series in book 5. That being said, this was actually quite enjoyable. For reference, I would compare this series to the Christeen Feehan or Kresley Cole.

I read several other reviews where people complained about Nick J. Russo, but I was already familiar with him from the Black Knight Chronicles series and thought he did a great job. It seems this series went from a female narrator to a male one, and changing narrators mid-series can be hard for some listeners to handle. Anyway, I enjoyed the book and am intrigued enough by the series to continue, and likely go back to the first 4 books to catch myself up.

Love the book, the series! The narrator not so much

If you could sum up Duncan in three words, what would they be?

Great Vampire Series

What did you like best about this story?

The love story about Duncan and Emma!!

Would you listen to another book narrated by Nick J. Russo?

Maybe, It's my opinion female narrator are better making males voices than males are at making female voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Baldwin took a bullet and still took out the shooter to save Emma. Also when Duncan helped Violet with her nightmares.
