Publisher's summary

We read a news story about a teenager who drinks too much alcohol too quickly and dies; who jumps from a high rock into a pool of deep water and drowns; who commits suicide yet no one realized she was suffering from depression.

The tragedy is that those kids understood the quadratic equations of algebra, yet they didn't have the life experience to recognize a dangerous situation or the symptoms of loneliness or the fragility of a broken heart so that they could feel safe and at peace.

Parental guidance these days may be quite limited due to family situations and busy schedules. Schools do not teach enough about lessons in life. Our children are more apt to believe something crazy a friend mentions than what is actually the truth.

Dropping In on the Waves of Life, told in first-person present tense, provides 3D encounters in which the listener experiences life through the author’s own eyes as a surfer and can consider better approaches or ways to avoid difficult situations. These are true tales of a surfer’s life experiences and lessons, many related to surfing, told in an enthusiastic, warm, and often humorous manner. They are similar to what everyone goes through, no matter that person’s sex or cultural background–sometimes a happy ending, sometimes not.

After each tale is a set of delving questions providing the opportunity for the listener to relate to the situation and discover a lesson in life without having to endure embarrassment or worse. Older listeners may gain new reflections upon what they’ve known.

To quote from the introduction: “I can help you avoid some of the pitfalls and little tricky situations awaiting you out in this World of ours. Then, go out and drop in on your own waves as you ride...in the greatest surf adventure (surfari) of them all–your life.”

Great reader and stories

The book is amazing. I loved it!!! It is deep and entertaining. The writer mentions he wrote this book to help others and he does it without a doubt. What better goal than that! He talks about important topics such as fear and loneliness, the importance of asking for help, anxiety and depression, being a people pleaser, and more. And let me tell you, is not only for teenagers, even though it’s the targeted audience, It’s extremely helpful for adults too. We all struggle with these types of problems during our whole life.
There were many chapters were useful for me for example Ch 7 when I was reminded of the importance of asking for help. I love how every chapter ends with a life lesson or advice to work on. I followed on many of those, and my life got better.
I will 100% recommend this book. It is nice to find a book with real life lessons and not just fantasy stories made to entertain.
If you are busy or more into audiobooks like me, you should listen the audiobook version in Audible. Peter is an excellent reader and he convey every feeling and emotion to the listener. I really enjoyed listening to him. I’m picky with the readers because many of them are bad readers, but Peter was a 10 out of 10 and being 100% honest here...
