Publisher's summary

When Miss Norma was diagnosed with uterine cancer, she was advised to undergo surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. But instead of confining herself to a hospital bed for what could be her last stay, Norma - newly widowed after nearly seven decades of marriage - rose to her full height of five feet and told her doctor, "I'm 90 years old. I'm hitting the road."

Packing what she needed, Norma took off on an unforgettable cross-country journey with three professional nomads - her retired son, Tim; his wife, Ramie; and their standard poodle, Ringo - in a 36-foot RV. Driving Miss Norma is the charming, infectiously joyous chronicle of their experiences on the road - a transformative journey of living life on your own terms that shows us that it is never too late to begin an adventure, inspire hope, or become a trailblazer.

As this once timid woman says yes to living in the face of death, she tries regional foods for the first time, zip-lines through a former stranger's yard, and reaches for the clouds in a hot air balloon. With each passing mile (and one educational visit to a cannabis dispensary), Miss Norma's health improves, and conversations that had once been taboo begin to unfold. Norma, Tim, and Ramie bond in ways they had never done before, and their definitions of home, family, and friendship expand. Stop by stop, state by state, they meet countless people from all walks of life - strangers who become fast friends and welcome them with kindness and open hearts.

Infused with this irrepressible nonagenarian's wisdom, courage, and generous spirit, Driving Miss Norma reminds us that life is beautiful and precious and that family, fun, and self-discovery can happen at any age.

so moving and inspiring

I loved this. I followed her journey on Facebook from ohio. i lost my grandma last year and this really made me think of her and made me teary eyed many times. As I was finishing this book a butterfly landed near by whether it was Miss Norma or my grandma I'm not sure but i think it was a little hello from heaven

This is now one of my favorite books.

I stumbled across this book in a magazine as one of the best reads for summer. I must say the cover made me smile and I had to purchase it. I went for the audible books version. I have to say I enjoyed I also! . I really liked that there where two points of view telling the story and the audio books was read by two people. I found this book an inspiration read .I found myself laughing out loud and grabbing tissues ( Did I mention I really liked this book)The inspiration is worth the tears and just having the tears made it more inspiring. I even found my husband enjoying the parts he got to listen while I had it playing in his presence. I even heard him telling the story he heard over from the book while at dinner with family. I really really don't want to talk about the stories in this book because I want you to read or listen to the book. Do your self a favor get this one and have have fun . Be warned have time and tissues when you sit and read because this book is also adventur and you won't want to stop reading it.

Inspiring Story

The story was a little slow for me to get into but the more I listened the better it got. What an inspiration to LIVE LIFE to the fullest even with a dire diagnosis.
I hope I have that much life in the end.

I loved the story and lessons. Tim and Ramie deserve amazing kudos for allowing us all into their sacred time. Thank you for taking us along and for sharing Miss Norma with us. Thank you for saying YES when you barely knew the question you were being asked! A true sign of faith and love in action.
