Publisher's summary

Surviving the wilds of Cornwall is more life-changing than they thought.

Miss Caroline Sloane is on her way to Poughill, Cornwall. In highhanded fashion, her estranged grandfather has arranged a marriage for her to a sea captain she’s met but once, and she wishes to convince him otherwise. She’ll marry for love or not at all, but an accident with the crowded mail coach on which she’s traveling throws her existence into chaos.

Alan Blackmore, the Earl of St. Clair, has been summoned to his Devon estate by his ducal father. His engagement, designed by the duke years ago, has now come due and he must wed to merge holdings. The last thing he wants is a leg-shackling, for he enjoys his life of a rake too much, and he means to tell his father off, but one dark, rainy night on mud-slick roads changes his course forever.

Lost and injured in windswept and rugged Cornwall, the first order of business is survival. As their injuries heal, Caroline and Alan come to know each other while living a simple, uncomplicated life. A friendship of necessity slowly grows into something passionate and scandalous, but when reality returns to rescue them, they both must decide what is more important: duty, tradition, or an unexpected love.

Delightful

The story is a delight. A “playing house” adventure that leads to real love.

Stevie Zimmerman’s narration is superb! She voices the emotions of the characters well. She also does the male mc in such a way that you always know who’s speaking which isn’t always true with sole narrators. I will be looking for more books narrated by her.

Heartwarming story

Caroline and Alan meet in an unusual way, the end up trapped in a cabin until outside help can rescue them. They each take care of one another, whether it’s cleaning up cuts and scrapes, cooking or hunting for food. They get to know each other as the days pass by and end up talking about things they normally would not.

When rescue comes, they know that what they experienced opened up their feelings, however, nothing can come of it, since someone else has been promised to each of them.

Ms. Sookoo writes from the heart, you can feel the emotions come through in the writing, her characters are both heartwarming and loved how she took the storyline to the ending of the book. You can tell how much research is done because of how the details come to life.

I was biting my nails getting to the end of the story, how was this going to work out, well this author did an amazing job getting us there, and no I won’t spoil it, you’ll have to read it for yourself.

Stevie also did an amazing with the narration, she brings the story come alive with all the wonderful details written by the author.

Looking for something a little different? Try this

Once again, looking for something read by Stevie Zimmerman has led me to a good book. Frankly, Stevie can make a mediocre book shine by her performance bringing characters to life. I had never read anything by Ms SooKoo before, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is not a mediocre book in any way.
The writing was witty and crisp with vivid detail and emotion. The story is a new twist on an often told tale in Regency romances of people being forced to do their duty for title or by command of their guardians/elders. The h/h here, however, are thrown together in a new way and their story is allowed to build slowly and naturally. They learn to respect each other and passion blooms naturally before their prior promises and duties return to threaten their potential happiness.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Looking for more by this dynamic duo. I hope Ms. Zimmerman and Ms. Sookoo have more collaborations I can enjoy.

Was an original

I liked the story. It wasn't the typical romance and I appreciate that. It was a little short but I am content with it. I did get the book from the author and this is my voluntary and honest review.
