Lisa started writing Dream Take Flight in 1998. It began as a book about the joy of building and flying a home-built aircraft and piloting it on an epic solo flight. But she soon realized that it wasn't complete without the backstory of an unconventional childhood and a promise to her mother.

Growing up in a neighborhood of boys, Lisa never understood why she couldn't take shop class, be a mechanic, or build an airplane. In the 1960s these were not expected activities for a girl. It took guts and persistence for a shy girl to break out of the norms and participate in non-traditional pursuits.

The entire journey was life changing. Lisa wrote Dream Take Flight hoping that others would be inspired to pursue their own big goal. To that end, the last several chapters take the listener through a step-by-step process to achieve their dream, with hints, tips, and tricks to get there.

Simply Awesome!

I had read the book several weeks ago and had planned to read it again. Then the audio version arrived. The story was and is amazing. The challenge, the determination, the endless pursuit of a childhood dream leading up to the excitement of the cross country flight. The book was exciting, the audio version brought it to life. I felt like I was there. Having read the book I was wondering if the original excitement would still be there, well let me say it was there and more. Listening to the story made me feel more like a participant in the saga. Reading the book made me an avid observer. As I was listening I felt as if I was there.
The story of her journey to fill a dream had so many emotions wrapped into one goal. To be able to accompany her on that journey and see the goal accomplished was truly a journey not to miss. Reading it was something special. Having it told to me in the outstanding audio version to be able to experience it as it unfolded was a thrill. I was a participant on that journey.

Mesmerizing storytelling drive this heart-warming story of an introverted girl who succeeds against the odds. Exhilarating and magnetic, I couldn’t stop listening. The narrator, Mandy Michaels, provides a wonderful and emotion filled voice to this story, it seems to be a perfect match. Not to give anything away, but the story does leave you with an uplifted, satisfied feeling--such a pleasure amidst this somewhat depressing world news cycle.

I read the book before hearing it as an audiobook. The audiobook is like frosting on a cake!

As I was captivated with each page, I was also in awe of the skilled degree that Lisa was able to put me right there with her. Her writing is exceptional at bringing each scene to life--not just right before your eyes but in your heart. Lisa is relatable, funny, inspiring, humble--without trying to be anything other than herself. There is such honest vulnerability, and her never-stop attitude gives us all perspective that we too can keep going--even pursue our dreams. I loved the adventure aspect of it, and have so much respect for the author in what she has done and in sharing it so eloquently.
