Captain William Sparhawk flies Earth's single starship on a voyage of exploration. His crew of veteran spacers begins the mission with high hopes and the best of intentions, but the universe has other plans. Instead of space merchants and potential allies, they discover Earth's impending doom. Sparhawk must decide whether to hunt down enemy scouts to keep Earth's new starship a secret or to head home to warn Star Guard of the danger. Either way, he's ignited an interstellar war.

Great action!

Awesome space war and battle story! lots of action snd rich detail. However, the personal situation with Z ye was an unnecessary distraction that both dominated and cheapens the storyline. I love a good love story in the midst of action, but this Zye thing was creepy.

Listen for Laughs

Captain William Sparhawk and his crew are off to explore and they find many surprises. I keep listening to this for the fun. There are more interesting descriptions that inspire me to answer back while having a very good chuckle. Start with book one and be prepared to enjoy what is a fun book full of cliches and some very different characters.

Edoardo Ballerini has a great voice for Sparhawk. It really helps see the characters and all his strengths and flaws.

notes of a sci-fi fan

I believe this is a fantastic addition to the trilogy of the lost colonies. some reviews on the first part of this trilogy I do not believe gave it enough credit or chance.

I thoroughly enjoyed it hopefully other fans will too

There needs to be a third

Any additional comments?

As a long haul trucker, I really enjoy the audio books. There really needs to be a third book in this series soon.

Has potential

I like the story line but not the narrator. He has a very snooty and pity nature and also sounds like a woman trying to sound like a man. Then when he portrays a woman it sounds like a man trying to sound like a woman. It is very unpleasant.

For the smartest captain, he's not that smart...

What did you like best about Dreadnought? What did you like least?

The plot was decent and the performances were pretty good.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Reduce the number of battles. It seemed quite contrived, by the end of the book, with build-up for more. There were ample opportunities for a deeper discussion, but they seemed to fall flat.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe...I was picturing who would play the characters while I read the book.

Any additional comments?

Maybe the story was best served in one book...seems like the author was stretching for material to fill a second book.

A fitting follow up to its predecessor

If you liked battlecruiser this should entertain you as well, although it borders on ridiculous at certain points.

A fun listen.

Exciting story. I like the space opera genre. Sure there are parts that were predictable, but overall a lot of fun and an original story.
