Carentan, France, 1944 - Ethan Martin, a soldier in the 101st Airborne, is fighting for his life. But soon he will learn what peril truly is when he is ripped from his world and transported to a land of magic, swords, and dragons. And though the Nazis are now far, far away, danger is closer than ever.

The eternal emperor, Shinzan has destroyed the mages. Only a few dragons remain in exile. And now that Ethan - son of Praxis Dragonvein - has returned, he must destroy him as well. Faced with unimaginable power, Ethan has only one hope - to reach the dwarf kingdom of Elyfoss before Shinzan can find him.

Not bad fantasy ...

I liked the book, not bad, not bad. I will probably give it another once over, just a little predictable but, not a bad story.

Good story

I found this to be a very easy book to listen to. I couldn't stop listening once I started. I finished it in a single day.

started off good but was hard to finish

started out great but about halfway thru it lost my attention i found myself waiting for the chapters to end, by the end of the i was actually was surprised it ended because it didn't even fell like it ended right, i mean it had a hook " kind of" but it felt week like the author did know how to end it. I am not wasted my money in hopes it gets better.

very good

it was a slow start, I will admit, with many parts leading me confused as to where exactly this story was taking me but it just as soon began to make more gradual sense and I really started to enjoy the the characters. character growth here was especially significant which is one of my favorite parts in any story.

Good, but not great

I really liked the begging, but it sort of fell short somehow at the end... I feel like there could be more focus on building the society with all the unspoken rules and traditions that make it feel as if u were there to discover the new world and new civilizations with the character. But if you like a story that heavily focuses on action, this might be the book for you.

Disappointed in the second book

I really enjoyed the first book. I was looking forward to the second book and had just started listening to it. By the 3rd chapter there was a lot of profanity. In the first book I don't even think it had one swear word in it. The second book repeats the f word continuously. I don't understand why authors do this. The characters have not changed so why do they suddenly start changing the way they talk or behave. Very disappointed. I was going to recommend the book to my son but now I can't. I wanted to warn any other readers who are looking for "clean" books that you will be disappointed in the next book in the series.

A bit too many "surprise saves"...

While the book overall was good and entertaining, there were few points in story that could have been improved.

Backstory, characters and overall setup was not all unseen before, but still very enjoyable even as very basic "Tolkien" world of humans, elves, dwarfs magic and dragons. Pacing wasn't too fast, actually it could have proceeded a bit faster imo. Still story kept unfolding nicely.

The main problem why the story didn't get my 5 stars was the overuse of "unexpected encounters and coincidences"... Every time something happens, and the characters are in some sort of danger or chaotic situation, they get saved "miracuously" by someone, something or somehow, and this is where story loses some of its depth. It gets boring after first 2 of these incidents, where something else rather than heroes themselves save them through tactic, use of wits or brute force. Especially when situations look reeeally desperate, rest assured: something MIRACULOUS will save them!... I mean, come on...

Performance was in the better end of narrators, really pleasant to listem, so 5 stars for that!

I'm gonna go right ahead for second book, and hopefully it will have more imaginary ways of solving tight situations through what heroes have atm, instead of relying for so called "roll 20 for Luck to get out of here!"
