Publisher's summary

A new hero emerges in a divided world as one of sci-fi’s most beloved series - Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern - relaunches with this original adventure from Anne’s daughter, Gigi McCaffrey.

In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the Dragonriders of Pern series, Gigi does her mother proud, adding to the family tradition of spinning unputdownable tales that recount the adventures of the brave inhabitants of a distant planet who battle the pitiless adversary known as Thread.

The last time Thread attacked Pern, the world was unprepared for the fight - until the Oldtimers appeared. These courageous dragonriders arrived from the past, traveling four hundred years to help their descendants survive. But the collision of past and present took its toll. While most of the displaced rescuers adapted to their new reality, others could not abide the jarring change and found themselves in soul-crushing exile, where unhappiness and resentment seethed.

Piemur, a journeyman harper, also feels displaced, cast adrift by the loss of his spectacular boyhood voice and uncertain of his future. But when the Masterharper of Pern sees promise in the young man and sends him undercover among the exiled Oldtimers, Piemur senses the looming catastrophe that threatens the balance of power between the Weyrs and Holds of Pern.

When the unthinkable happens, Piemur must rise to the challenge to avert disaster and restore honor to the dragons and dragonriders of Pern. Because now, in a world already beset by Thread, another, more insidious danger looms: For the first time in living memory, dragons may be on the verge of fighting dragons.

Dragon's Code

LOVED this. What a great telling of the behind the scenes story of the Harper Hall and how young Pimeur finds his path in life.

Thank you

I’m so glad you gave us more dragon riders off Pern. I hope you will give us more. I read the series every few years. I’m sorry about the loss of your mother.

Sad

I’m saddened. So many breaks gram Cannon. So many mistakes. I think if she re-writes it this could be a fantastic story. But it honestly reads like a fan fiction.

slightly off

good story by itself. the peesepective of Pimer and a few other was nice to hear. But, some of the details are a little off. After reading the rest of the books and immediately going to this one.... some details of events and timelines don't match. but over all good story with some tear wrenching spots.

Nope

Love the Pern series, could hardly wait for this one to be over. Narrator way too perky.

Almost a McCaffrey story

The base story was good enough, and was engaging, but little details kept throwing me off. Changes to the fundamentals of some of the original characters, use of shortened names, Piemur acting more juvenile in this series than he did in the original ... just kept pulling me out of the story. Enjoyed it, but was annoyed at the same time.

The quality of this book…,

Ms. McCraffrey,
I rarely write reviews. But besides your mother’s book ‘White Dragon’ I was never so enthralled by as pern book.

Bringing out the character in your fashion, humanizing him and helping him Manage the passage into adulthood and giving him new purpose was sublime. Your unique story telling gifts need not end here. I only hope you consider another character to build out. Your mother, may she rest, gave us the overview but you are wonderful in character development. My thoughts of P. changed dramatically through this book it was a great character development.
Please write another book. God Bless+

Fr.+. Richard E. Donohoe, Thank You

Nothing new

While the addition of some details to the stolen egg arch were interesting, this parallel story is derivative and in the end pedantic.

Story was good but was hoping for something new.

Good narration. Hoped for something new, not one I already knew. Waiting for Gigi's next!
