Great read

The only regret I have is not listening to the first book in the series first though the second book stands quite well on its own. I recommend them both

Much better book than the first in the series, a great and engaging read

This book is so much better than the first, the characters are more rounded and lifelike. There is a lot more relationship development and the story makes you want to read more and more as fast as you can. The story itself is reminiscent of the inheritance series from Pasolini. The battle sequences are riveting and exciting but there is no strong language, which I really appreciate. I plan to purchase the rest of the series to see where the story goes and how it ends. Great book, a must read.

Great segue from first book

I found this book just as interesting as this first one. The characters continue to grow and develop as does the resistance. I was able to listen to this book with my grandchildren and my children in the car which was awesome.

The sweet center

I admit that I have no idea how many books there will ultimately be in this series. But this was a very good middle book.

what does that mean? It means the book fulfilled expectations from the first book, while also containing a complete plot and set up for a future book.

I only have one big complaint and that is that this novel took to long to revisit the characters from book one that I already loved. instead the author introduced new characters and followed them exclusively until about the halfway point. I love the new characters now but at the beginning I just wanted to know what was going on with the old characters.

As far as the performance goes I love this narrator because he differentiated between characters with his voice and because he did a variety of UK accents.

A great dragon story.

An excellent book about dragons and the people. Lots of action and twists to satisfy everyone.

I was most impressed with the culture of the dragons and wyverns. They weren’t just beasts but characters in the story. My favorite dragon stories are like this one. Many stories today have just one or two dragons and they are not active characters in the story.

A great series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

As with book 1, this was a pretty solid fantasy book. I thought it did a great job of following the first book. The story, I felt, really took off in this book. Now that the world is established and the core characters are known, the author does a great job of progressing the story. The narration is also well done. Just like with the last book, he brings the story to life. I definitely think these books can be longer, but they are good, so I would still recommend the series to any fan of the genre. Definitely wanting more.

Pretty mediocre, but still an improvement

First, let me just say that I continue listening to Craig Price's books because I keep seeing the seeds of wonderful stories. They just can't quite deliver on the premise.

Okay, that being said, the narrator has a good, smooth voice with clear pronunciation and great tempo. However, apart from different accents there isn't much variation in his voices. I would have liked to hear a lot more vocal range.

Story-wise, this book was not what I was expecting it to be. I was expecting a direct continuation of the characters we got to know in the first Dragonia book. And while we do eventually get back to them, the first part of this book feels almost like I'm reading the first one again (character on the run, looking for The Resistance but having no idea where to look).

There were a lot of places where we were given a great setup for some rich storytelling, but the majority of the details we're given are about how attractive this character or that is and what features are pleasing to look upon.

I would have liked a lot more lead-in to the battles (set the stage for me, let me feel immersed in it) and a lot more of what's happening in the character's head during the fights instead of strict play-by-play on the action of the fights.

As with previous books, the prose is clumsy at times and a lot (read: A LOT) of the dialogue feels very stilted, especially when the lines are meant to be quippy or sarcastic.

Now, that said, I do recommend giving these books a read/listen. No, they aren't great literature, but there's an interesting story here with some really cool ideas (like the properties of dragon/wyvern blood! So cool!) that I'm glad to have read about.

Better than the first book

Ok, the first book was slow and I can’t say this book is much faster in terms of pace. There are several twists that made the story more engaging BUT the amount of sheer “luck” is kind of ridiculous. Is the book worth reading? Sure. Would I read it a second time? Probably not. There’s enough that I could be persuaded to read the third installment if there was nothing else to catch my interest.

Parents: there’s quite a bit of violence and blood (it’s a war book guys). No sex, just lots of nondescript romantic feelings. If you’re chill with violence and solid sword fighting descriptions and decapitations I’d say this would be decent for teens (think hunger games violence).

Discovery

The story revolves around a resistance group that are fighting the evil Lord and his dragons. As they struggle to win they discover new magical talents within themselves. Excellent characters and it kept my interest all the way. The ending was perfect, no cliffhangers (thank you), yet left it open for more great stories.
