Publisher's summary

"Gray dragons are different, my son. It means you must be careful; your skin will be pierced more easily. But on the other hand, having no hunger for gems and gold will allow you to live in the Upper World and far from men."

High in the mountains, deep in the safety of a cave, a brood of dragons is born. The four young ones are among the last of a dying breed - the final hope for dragons' survival. But hope shatters when a murderous group of slave-trading dwarves breaks into the cave, leaving death and destruction in its wake.

Only young Auron, a rare scaleless gray dragon, manages to escape. Armed with nothing save wit, claws, and a boundless determination to survive, he seeks his kind. But to find other dragons - or at least discover who's killing them off - Auron will have to search a world of mercenary elves, vicious humans, and dangers of all kinds. Winning allies in the strangest places - and finding himself along the way - Auron embarks on the journey of a thousand-year lifetime.

Great book to listen with children!

What did you love best about Dragon Champion?

My grandson are almost done with this book and cant wait to start book 2. We listen each day on the way home from school and never want to turn off the car. He loves dragons and the way E.E. Knight writes and educates you at the same time is amazing.

The first of hopefully many audio books I hear

I though the narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life and differentiating between the characters by pitching his voice differently and providing accents. This is the first professionally done audio book I've ever listened to and I enjoyed it a lot.

As for the story, I recommend it highly especially if you like dragon's and even more so if you'd like to see the dragon as the main character capable of thought and friendship as well as fire breathing and fighting.

a story of a dragon from birth

I loved hearing the story from beginning to end with all the trials and tribulations the main character had to go through. I have this whole book series in paper back, but I find it hard to read books due to my attention span. That being said this story has brought my love for a game D&D back but in a different way. When I played before it was all selfish and staying away from all forms of danger and death. This book showed me that danger and death can build one's character even if the character appears feeble and weak. I look forward to either listening or attempting to read the rest of this book series.

Amazing!

I really enjoyed this book. I read this in high school, but I found it again and had to read it. It is as wonderful as I remember. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried at parts! Loved it!

I normally can't stand audio books, but David Drummond has a quality to his reading and his voice that made it enjoyable.
