Publisher's Summary

Seven instalments of the classic radio crime drama starring Cecil Parker, plus special documentary feature 'A Case for Dr Morelle'.

Dr Morelle uses psychological insight, criminology and dogged persistence to solve cases. Here he must deduce the answers to mysteries including a hotel death, a man tormented by nightmares, and deadly threats made to an elderly spinster.

Created by Ernest Dudley as 'the man you love to hate', sarcastic, self-opinionated psychiatrist-sleuth Dr Morelle first appeared on the radio show Monday Night at Eight in 1942. He was one of the most memorable of the British radio detectives and thrilled millions week after week with his unique combination of arrogance and omniscience.

First broadcast on BBC radio in 1957, and published here for the very first time, these seven episodes are 'Alarm Call', 'Confession of Guilt', 'Threat to Kill', 'The Sleepwalker', 'The Blackmailer', 'Voice in the Night' and 'The Will'. Also included is a 1999 BBC radio documentary, 'A Case for Dr Morelle', in which cultural historian and mystery aficionado Professor Jeffrey Richards examines the casebook of the Harley Street detective.

Classic Radio Crime: presenting vintage detectives for your investigation!

FANTASTIC CLASSIC DETECTIVE RADIO SHOW

These are fantastic old style classic radio shows with the upper crust actor Cecil Parkers droning voice that is perfect for this English psychologist as he wanders through each new murder case.

I got each one but still enjoyed these “black n white” radio shows that are full of nostalgia and intrigue. Made me imagine what it would be like as families of the 1940’s spent their evenings sat around the radio in anticipation and excitement as they listened to shows just like this.

We would like more of these please as these are something different and far away from today’s modern and more like what you get at a theatre. And we love the theatre.

Fantastic old BBC crime drama

I absolutely loved Dr Morelle - he is so rude especially to his poor secretary . The way his character plays out is hilarious even though it isn't meant to be . The only complaint is the episodes were too short !

Period detective

Very much of its era, Gentle crime, The man [Dr Morelle] is always right, He could not survive without his female assistant, But it is unlikely he is really aware of this fact,,Sheila Sims plays the demure side kick, however, all these episodes were recorded before womens rights and the equality laws were passed.. an era when people expected women to faint, even if in reality they probably did not swoon to order.
So with this in mind..the adventures of Dr Morelle are actually quite entertaining .
