Great introduction

This is a small introduction to Weil's integrative medical philosophy. The neophyte of medical studies may be supriesed to know most of the medical scientific breakthroughs have done us well in the acute setting but as for chronic illnesses we are but managing disease. The integrative approach starts with prevention and if this is not possible looks at all posibilities of helping the body regain its homeostasis.

Excellent summary on healthy living

This is a great starting book for anyone interested in living a healthy life. Not so much new material for those who already read a few books on modern nutritional approaches to staying or becoming healthy, but if you haven't read anything I this topic or not much than this is an excellent starter that will provide a super solid foundation and enough additional material to get you thinking. After this then read How Not To Die.

Common sense

Any additional comments?

Dr. Weil is a joy to listen to. I enjoy his conservational tone. He doesn't confuse his listeners with difficult to understand science, rather explains it in layman's term. I could listen to Dr. Weil all day long.

Amazing resource for optimum health

I have been health-conscious for most of my life, making sure to eat good Whole Foods and exercise. My recent diagnosis with breast and uterine cancer was a shock.
Dr. Andrew Weil’s book provides a wealth of information that you don’t find in main stream health care. He does a great job at writing as if he were sitting across the table from you. My biggest take away is that there is not just one approach to any health event. It is a combination of self love, self advocacy, some basic health knowledge of different medicine approaches and the importance of using food for healing.

solid information

Dr. Weil has an easy to listen to voice. He breaks down fairly complex information into digestible sections. While some of this information may be old to some it is nice to hear it from his perspective and insight.

Great book, well researched - opinion of fellow MD

As a surgical resident with personal interest in yoga, healthy eating, fitness, and a curiosity about integrative medicine, I bought this book expecting to hear a bunch of quacky $&@# with an occasional gold nugget advice that was doable and actually backed by evidence-based medicine. What I found was a plethora of solid, well-founded advice in a format that was so easy to understand I'm tempted to buy the book for my 70+ year old parents in hopes that they may find a better balance in the way they live their lives and their approach to health. I may not be able to eat tempeh, piles of spinach and get 7+ hours of sleep as a resident, but on the whole, the book certainly makes me more mindful of my habits and gives me some hope for creating a long term plan for health.
