Danger lurks below!

In this first novel of the Doubloon Cove series, we meet tween-aged sleuths Jeffrey and Steven, both 12, and Cindy, 10 as they tackle their first case.

Jeffrey's and Cindy's parents are college professors and believe that there is a thousand-year-old mystery regarding Vikings in Massachusetts right here in Doubloon Cove, Massachusetts. But their peers ridicule them, so they are too afraid to pursue it. So it is up to Jeffrey, Cindy, Steven, and his brother Frederick to solve the case. But they must battle dangerous caverns, their own fears, and must learn to work as a team, all while being chased by crooks who have their own agenda.

Set in a time before smartphones and Internet, Doubloon Cove is a thrilling adventure full of danger and revelations. History, mystery, and action come together in this compelling story; it is Nancy Drew meets the young Indiana Jones meets the Goonies.

This is a good mystery involving young children who, after an attempted robbery, discover part of a map. They found out their own father purchased a portion of a map years ago. When they sneak in and get their father's map, the find it Is the other half. So starts their journey to discover a lost treasure. Narrator does a good job with the various characters and the entire storyline.

The story takes place in Massachusetts in the year 1992 where Jeffrey, Cindy his sister, and Jeffrey's best friend: Steven, embark on a great adventure that starts with an attempted burglary and ends up with solving the thousand-year-old mystery about early Viking settlers in Doubloon Cove - Massachusetts. Steven's brother, Frederick, joins the clan to help solve the mystery and he ends up being a great help.
I lived the adventure with each and every chapter and with every scene from this story.
I enjoyed listening to this book.

This was a fun story. Kinda like a Nancy Drew/Goonies sort of tale. I plan on sharing this with my kid when closer to 10. As an adult, it was enjoyable enough, but not necessarily something I would pick up for myself.

Narrator did a fine job as well. It’s pretty tricky doing voices for a variety of kiddos.

I was given this audiobook for free at my request and have voluntarily left a review.

Cute story for young teens/older children

The story of Doubloon Cove comes off as a kind of Goonies lite: a group of kids on a treasure hunt that is pursued by a couple of criminals. The story is entertaining enough, however it's not without some issues. Much of the story feels very much geared toward a young audience and yet quite often the dialogue feels off, Kids wouldn't talk as they do or act in the manner they often did. Entertaining enough story, but not one that is likely to stick with me long after I'ver finished. On the positive said, Shannon Nicole Locke does a wonderful job with the narration.

Goonies lite.
