L. Frank Baums Dot and Tot of Merryland erschien 1901, ein Jahr nach The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, und Baum und sein Illustrator W. W. Denslow erhofften sich von dem neuen Buch einen ähnlichen Erfolg. Der blieb aber zu ihrer Enttäuschung aus; das Buch geriet neben den Oz-Geschichten nahezu in Vergessenheit. 1994 hat es der New Yorker Verlag The Emerald City Press in seiner Reihe Books of Wonder neu aufgelegt (mit Bildern von Donald Abbott) und The Bobbs Merrill Company in Indianapolis hat - ohne Jahresangabe - eine Art Faksimile der Originalausgabe mit Denslows Illustrationen (leider nur in schwarzweiß) herausgebracht. Dot und Tot von Lustigland ist eine seltene Übersetzung, da im deutschen Sprachraum hauptsächlich nur die Oz-Geschichten bekannt.
