Publisher's summary

A war was brewing within our borders. Not a war with weapons, but one with words. Until now. And so it begins....

From critically acclaimed author Bobby Akart, Doomsday, a new post-apocalyptic survival thriller, is a gripping series of America on the edge of societal collapse and destined for war.

In Doomsday: Apocalypse, book one of the Doomsday series, it was New Year's Eve. As the ball dropped in Times Square, Americans were preparing for a new year and a bright future. Instead, they found themselves fighting for their lives as the fuse had been lit that sent the country into chaos.

With political rancor at an all-time high, the war of words escalated, and a political war erupted. Americans were caught in the crosshairs of societal unrest and a shadowy group stoking the fires of discontent burning in America. Words were replaced by weapons, as neighbor turned on neighbor, and powerful forces stopped at nothing to reshape a nation in turmoil.

America had become embroiled in something more than a clash of ideologies. She now faced a battle in which the blood of patriots and tyrants would be shed. As Americans struggled to survive, they sought a place of safety where they could ride out the coming storm. However, even if they can overcome the threats confronting them, will they bear witness to an America hell-bent on destroying itself?

This is a story of a nation divided, on the cusp of a second civil war, and what that portends for our future. Remember, all empires collapse eventually, and America will be no exception.

You won’t be able to put it down

Doomsday Apocalypse is a well crafted look at what America may experience if we can’t bridge the political divide that has become more pronounced in recent years. Full of suspense, it showcases different individuals, families and groups, and walks us through the horror and mayhem they experience while the US is collapsing from within. While certain characters may be involved in the process because of good intentions, others are pawns or involved due to greed. While there’s still some mystery surrounding these actors, we get first hand accounts, from other characters, of the consequences that were unleashed on unsuspecting citizens. Full of intrigue, action and suspense, this first book in Bobby Akart’s new series will keep you on the edge of your seat and ready for more.

Don’t start any Akart book at night.

Every time I can’t sleep I say, “I’ll just listen for 1 chapter”. Next thing I know - I’m looking for the next book in any series by Bobby Akart. Chris Abernathy is such a great narrator. What a pair. So it’s almost midnight. Any other reasonable and prudent nurse would try to get some sleep.... but there’s another book in this series and I have to know what happens next.

Excellent

This series is so good and scary. It is so far relevant to the times we live in today. Bobby does an excellent job teaching and entertaining. No roller coaster rides for me! Can’t wait for book 2.

Pretty good listen, with some plot holes.

My main gripe with the first installment in this series is the technical plot holes. Kingda Ka does not have emergency brakes onboard the train, and the magnetic eddy-current breaks do not cease to function during a power outage. These mechanisms use permanent magnets to slow the train, and are therefore not dependent on power. The technical fudge serves the plot, but for those of us that are technically-minded, it also somewhat ruins it for us. In the real event of a power outage while Kingda Ka crests the top hat, the ride would proceed normally until the break run, being slowed appropriately.

If you can set aside the technical issues, it's a decent listen, and despite the technical failures, I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Start of a thriller...

This new series shows promise. Just as it pulls you in the first book ends. Looking forward to the next book of this series.
