Great read/listen
Doom and Bloom (English Cottage Garden Mysteries #3), my 20th read/listen from author H.Y. Hanna & the third book in her new English Cottage Garden Series. An enjoyable cozy mystery. I love the narrator’s British accent; I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of narrator Pearl Hewitt, especially her oh so cute animal sounds & really enjoyed the read. Cozy mystery/romance, captivating primary character, what other blurbs can I use to describe these books? Oh well, buy the book, read the books, get into a good author and some good characters as I have. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. This series is so good that we listened to it on Black Friday while traveling to our daughter's home in Toledo. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Cozy Mystery Set Around Cottage Garden Nursery
Doom and Bloom is another fun and lighthearted cozy mystery in the English Cottage Garden Mystery series by H. Y. Hanna. The series follows a down on her luck 20-something Poppy Lancaster after she inherits her estranged grandmother’s dilapidated cottage garden nursery. Having no experience with a plants, let alone an old-fashioned English Garden, it’s enjoyable listening to Poppy’s attempts to restore the nursery to its former glory.
Doom and Bloom picks up shortly after Silent Bud Deadly, wherein Poppy completed her first gardening contract at a beautiful country house. In this installment Poppy is hired to create a "canine scent garden” by an eccentric wealthy owner who takes “pampered pooch” to a new level with doggy yoga, facials, and spa treatments. When this dog lover’s niece is stabbed at the village fête, Poppy can’t resist but get involved in discovering who did it, eliciting the help from a few of her neighbors in the process, including the “mad scientist” Bertie (think Doc Brown from the Back to the Future movies) and crime fiction writer Nick.
What I like most about H.Y. Hanna’s stories are they are well written with likable characters and the mysteries are plausible with enough red herrings so as not to spoil the endings. I especially appreciate the narrator, the always impressive Pearl Hewitt. Pearl’s narrations make me laugh with her differing characterizations for all of the players. Simply put, it’s impossible not to be entertained by such a charming cozy mystery series!

Another fun mystery!
Doom and Bloom is a cozy mystery set in a picturesque Cotswold village. I always feel like I'm on a mini vacation to England when I read H.Y. Hanna's books. Interesting characters, plenty of humor, and various clues and red herrings kept me listening to the end; twists, turns, and surprises kept me guessing.
Pearl Hewitt is an outstanding narrator, who is able to bring life and personality to each and every character, no matter their age, gender, or nationality. Pets play an important part in this series, and she is expert at interpreting their voices as well.
If you'd like to spend a few pleasant hours in an English village, this book is for you!

A Cozy English murder
Doom and Bloom is the 3rd book in this delightful cozy series. These books offer a fantasy escape to a small village setting with numerous quirky characters. Poppy is a young, somewhat naive protagonist gradually learning to make a more satisfying and independent life in the lovely cottage and garden she has inherited.
I enjoy Hanna's books when I want to forget the stress of my own life. She provides plenty of viable suspects, and a sufficiently plausible, gradual revelation of clues. Humorous scenes are interspersed throughout, although I do find that sometimes they have a somewhat ageist element that annoys me. She does, however, set a good murder mystery puzzle, and that's the ultimate satisfaction.
Disclosure: A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

This is my idea of a perfect cozy mystery
I know you have read the summary. Here's my impression of the book set in a Beautiful Cotswolds English garden maintained by Poppy who is attempting to take over her departed grandmother's garden business because she fell in love with the place. Poppy is not the most careful person and has a lot of pride but she's bright and cheerful. An antidote to those tired of morose detectives who swig alcohol every chance they get and are perpetually gloomy. Her friends are many and the best are not human and very vocal. Food is often mentioned. Poppy gets to attend a village fete for the first time in her life and really enjoys herself. I had fun along with her. Poppy brings her skills to bear when someone (I won't tell you who) is murdered. Justice must be done and innocents saved.

A blooming good book
I really enjoyed this book, I read the book when it first came out and was looking forward to the audio book, it didn't disappoint and I even caught my mum laughing at it a few times. I just love the whole series, it is a nice refreshing change for the book to be set in the English countryside. The characters are fun and quirky and I especially like the two next door neighbours and can't wait to see what the inventor comes up with next time, and this time a few of his ideas worked …. well sort of, very funny.
Poppy is attending the local village fete, when a murderer strikes. Proving it is easier to kill someone then it is to knock a coconut off its stand. Poppy is soon knee deep in the murder especially as she is hired by the murdered girls aunt to create a sensory garden for her pampered pooch and digs up the murder weapon. With the added fun of a romance (for the dogs not are heroine) things get really complicated and with the police dropping the ball it is up to Poppy to make sure the right person is caught. Even if that means she puts here own life in danger. Will she come out smelling like roses?
I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down, can't wait for the next book. Who knew gardening could be so much fun.
I like the narrator but one of the characters was very whinny sounding which grated a bit and I had to turn the sound down. Also at one point I had to stop because I couldn't hear over my dog barking at the cat, so she must of done a good job for my dog to be listening.

Great series. Loads of fun.
A thoroughly enjoyable third book in the series.
The mystery had me guessing and I really enjoyed watching Poppy develop her business and become part of the community. I thought the idea of a scent garden for the dog was a cute and interesting idea.
I love the side characters in this series especially Bertie and Nick as well as their four legged friends.
This a fun series that gets better with every book.
