Aren’t you over it yet? Anyone who has experienced a major loss in their past knows this question. We’ve spent years fielding versions of it, both explicit and implied, from family, colleagues, acquaintances, and friends. We recognize the subtle cues - the slight eyebrow lift, the soft, startled “Oh! That long ago?” - from those who wonder how an event so far in the past can still occupy so much precious mental and emotional real estate.

Story
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

Now, in these rare recorded gems, he inspires a new generation of inner explorers seeking deeper insights into meditation - its myriad forms, how they work, and what happens when we practice them.

Publisher's summary
This program is read by the author. In Don't Unplug, Chris Dancy, the world's most connected person, inspires listeners with practical advice to live a happier and healthier life using technology.
In 2002, Chris Dancy was overweight, unemployed, and addicted to technology. He chain-smoked cigarettes, popped pills, and was angry and depressed. But when he discovered that his mother kept a record of almost every detail of his childhood, an idea began to form. Could knowing the status of every aspect of his body and how his lifestyle affected his health help him learn to take care of himself? By harnessing the story of his life, could he learn to harness his own bad habits?
With a little tech know-how combined with a healthy dose of reality, every app, sensor, and data point in Dancy's life was turned upside down and examined. What Marie Kondo did for closets, Dancy did to his phone and life - and now he's sharing what he knows. That knowledge includes the fact that changing the color of his credit card helps him to use it less often and that nostalgia is a trigger for gratitude for him.
A modern-day story of rebirth and redemption, Chris' wisdom and insight will tell listeners how to improve their lives by paying attention to the relationship between how we move, what we eat, who we spend time with, and how it all makes us feel. But Chris has done all the hard work: Don't Unplug shows us how we, too, can transform our lives.

Buying groceries, tracking our health, finding a date: whatever we want to do, odds are that we can now do it online. But few of us ask how all these digital products are designed, or why. It's time we change that. Many of the services we rely on are full of oversights, biases, and downright ethical nightmares. Chatbots that harass women. Signup forms that fail anyone who's not straight. Social media sites that send peppy messages about dead relatives. Algorithms that put more black people behind bars.

Thank you
Thank you for letting us inside the operating system that is Chris Dancy. Having met you a few times during this journey of yours, I found your insights colored with more context than what I knew before consuming this book. I also found hearing your voice helped me connect to the story.
A big “a ha” for me was the notion of scheduling what I value, rather than the opposite. I plan to run with that concept and I look forward to seeing what the data will tell me.
Congratulations on your book and I wait with excitement to read your next book someday.

Change your life...
I've used some of the techniques that Chris describes in this book to change my personal health, my professional and personal personas, and to improve the relationships in my life. Everyone who listens to this book will see themselves in Chris -- will relate to his struggles and will gain insight on how to measure and overcome many of life's challenges.
If I ever meet Chris IRL, he is going to get a big hug!
