About this listen

Introducing The Time Police, a series by international bestselling author, Jodi Taylor - an irresistible spinoff from the much-loved Chronicles of St Mary's series. Perfect for fans of Doctor Who, Terry Pratchett and Jasper Fforde.

'The best way to describe this book: lots of fun' British Fantasy Society

'Inventive and entertaining... a fast-paced and fun first book in what promises to be an excellent new series' Culturefly

A long time ago in the future, the secret of time travel became known to all. Unsurprisingly, the world nearly ended. There will always be idiots who want to change history.

Enter the Time Police. An all-powerful, international organisation tasked with keeping the timeline straight. At all costs.

Their success is legendary. The Time Wars are over. But now they must fight to save a very different future - their own.

This is the story of Jane, Luke and Matthew - the worst recruits in Time Police history. Or, very possibly, three young people who might change everything.

Jodi Taylor's time travel novels have become my go to books for clever stories and lovable characters. I love them.

For the snarky characters, the cross overs between sides, for the clever word play, the characters dynamics and cultural references that are just laying in wait to pounce and make you chuckle.

This one begins to flesh in the past (?!) of some well known cast from a different angle and Taylor nails the depiction of what "the other side" must look like seen with "the other's perspective". I love how good vs evil (well... Perhaps zealous and misguided would be better adjectives) play out against and yet mingle with each other. In the context of Taylor's stories on St. Mary's listening in on this tale puts perspective on some base assumptions, which is a very welcome twist to "the reality i have come to expect from the story setting".

*slight spoiler*
I get a fleeting sense of the empire vs. the rebels... And one of the characters is named Luke. Coinsidence? You be the judge.

On a more reflective note this book approaches, to my mind, a questioning of doing what you love vs. Loving what you do. The idea of growing into something and observing that in a very unreal setting makes real life less... Unbelievable.

Thank you to Mrs. Taylor for crafting this world and to Mrs. Ramm for once again nailing the performance and creating that fantastic St. Marys feel.

Just in time for the next one

What a wonder full time

What a great way to continue the stories of our beloved St. Mary’s folks while expanding the universe to include more of the time police’s side of these (mis)adventures as well. I was taken in by the new characters and cannot wait to see where they’ll be off to next. This was a great diversion from the Quarantine. Please keep ‘em coming, Ms. Taylor!

So Fun!

I still love St. Mary’s more(!), but this was a fun look into TPHQ. Also enjoyed getting to know Mathew as a young man. Fun listen. Zara is ALWAYS the best!

Was sometimes difficult to tell which character is speaking, especially when going between male voices.

Fun listen, loved the st Mary’s overlap.

I really enjoyed this as I have all of Jody Taylor’s stories of St. Mary’s

The usual good stuff

The first half of this book almost reads like a collection of self-contained short stories. But then it picks up the pace, adds a proper story arc, accelerates the development of several characters, chucks in a few old favourites and culminates in a very satisfying (although a little bit too neat and predictable) conclusion. I am confident that the series will stand well alongside the St Mary's series. Must bustle now, there's volume 2 to be read/listened to and I can't wait.

As for the audio version, all hail to Zara Ramm as always. Spot on.

Game of two halves

I'm a big fan of Jodi Taylor. I was surprised to see a book about the Time Police, but of course it fits perfectly. I hope to hear more from these characters!

Sometimes series books will falter, just rehashing the same old thing. This series just gets better. I laughed through it;-)
