Publisher's summary

From the author of Ice Dogs, comes a riveting adventure about a musher who sets out to prove her impaired vision won't hold her back from competing in a rigorous sled race through the Canadian wilderness. Perfect for fans of Gary Paulsen.

McKenna Barney is trying to hide her worsening eyesight and has been isolating herself for the last year. But at the request of her little sister, she signs up for a commemorative mail run race in the Canadian wilderness - a race she doesn't know if she can even see to run. Winning would mean getting her disease - and her sister's - national media coverage, but it would also pit McKenna and her team of eight sled dogs against racers from across the globe for three days of shifting lake ice, sudden owl attacks, snow squalls, and bitterly cold nights.

A pause-resisting adventure about living with disability and surviving the wilderness, Dog Driven is the story of one girl's self-determination and the courage it takes to trust in others.

We listened to the book while in the car. My kids really enjoyed the book and couldn’t wait to listen. Make for easy enjoyable rides in the car.

Coming to Terms

I saw this book on a Scholastic Book add at the school I work and it looked interesting. I found it on Audible so I decided to give it a try. It is a rich story with strong characters. McKenna is facing a change a health challenge that she has been unwilling to truly accept for many reasons. As the story and the race progress she comes to better understand herself and her disability. I love the message that you learn to work with her limitations but they don’t have to hold you back. I enjoyed this story as an adult and I think it would be a great read for teens and preteens as well.

I picked up the audio version and enjoyed it very much.

A great book for all ages

Being someone who also struggles with a disability though a different one from the heroine of our story I found myself relating to her and being deeply moved by Terry Lynn Johnson's story. I loved the little tidbits of history and the understanding of the struggle of what it is to learn to accept and thrive with a disability. Truly beautifully written. By the end I found myself hoping for an epilogue. Highly recommend.
The narration was well performed as well!
