Publisher's summary

A brilliant child protégée, she dreams of becoming a doctor and a surgeon...and accomplishes her goals. Unfortunately, her youth and round, childlike face work against her. No matter how skilled she becomes, how knowledgeable, the old school, male-dominated medical hierarchy wants to keep her in her place.

Deanna has worked hard to become an expert in her chosen field, but few believe this "child" capable. Specializing in infectious diseases, she travels the world - from the States to Europe to South America - honing her skills before winding up in Africa where her skills are desperately needed.

Meeting a nurse by the name of Madison MacGregor, she finds they share an insatiable curiosity and a love of helping others, but falling in love was not what she intended. Later, when she loses Maddie to a misunderstanding, she is haunted by the one that got away....

Ten years have passed, and both the doctor and nurse have moved on with their lives, but fate intervenes when they find themselves working at the same hospital. Their friendship is revived.... Can their love be rekindled? Will the past haunt them or bring them closer? Will the secrets that both harbor keep them from realizing a future together?

Another Homerun

The descriptive journey for this book actually made me feel like I was with the characters. My journey with this had me learning and visualizing places I've never been to.

Wonderfully Romantic Book

Love born in Africa but not brought to competition is found again in Los Angeles ten years later. Deanna, a prodigy doctor, and Madison, a nurse, meet and fall in love. When fear keeps Madison from committing and Deanna from articulating her feelings they separate. Good performance.

Ten years later they cross paths at a hospital in Los Angeles. Will they find their way back to the love that binds them.

Long lost love

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. At first it felt like it took a while for the story to get going. I do admit I got lost with some of the minor characters and had to go back a few times. However it quickly played out and I understood what was happening again. The story of the Doctor and the Nurse was endearing and I often found myself smiling over how charming it was. I enjoyed a range of emotions and happily ended this book with a smile.

The narration was a little more tough to get into. I listened mostly with earbuds and could occasionally hear distracting background noises, which made it feel a little canned in. Those noises were less noticeable listening over speakers. The narrator however was easy to listen to, and made clear distinction between the characters.

I truly enjoyed this book and I am sure I will be revisiting it in the future. I did not want it to end. I fell in love and could have listened to the characters lives for so much longer, but the ending certainly was satisfying.

Enjoyable Romance

K'Anne Meinel has a way of drawing a perfect picture for you with her works. I have listened to some of her work before and Doctored fits into that same style. It begins in a hospital where a nurse sees a doctor who she knew from a previous time in her life. The author then takes us through several chapters of flashback, building the characters in a completely different environment in the jungles of Africa. We see the relationship building between Madison and Deanna, but Madison has reservations about getting into a full relationship with another woman. She has been brought up that such things are wrong and so she keeps a protective distance from Deanna. We are brought forward in time to present-day where they are working at the same hospital. Deanna is on a short 6-month rotation there. Their relationship picks up again, but there are still hangups about admitting and accepting having a relationship with another woman.

I enjoyed the overall story. The narration was very good, including the heavy Boston accent on Deanna's character. There were times that I felt the story drug along and the pace could have been picked up. I thought it was a good representation of a woman trying to deal with coming out, the issues with friends and family acceptance, issues with whether her kids from a failed marriage would accept it, and whether she could accept it for herself.

I received a copy of this audiobook from the author in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

I always like books that takes you back in time to see how it all begin :-). I enjoyed going on this journey with Deanna and Madison as they went through their growth and self-discovery.

Great doctor book

I liked the story of love lost and then rekindled. I’m a softy at heart and love seeing true love coming back together. I liked the back story that was told before the present day romance. The only issue I had with this listen was the narrator could have been better. The accents were horrible but all in all it was a great story.

Doctored

I really enjoyed this book. the reality of health care workers being harmed on these African missions is something you know must happen. the gossipy hospital staff is also very true.. the highlight of this story, for me, is how well it is written. this is a don't miss story.

This was a great story, I really enjoyed it. Great how it explained the beginning of the relationship. I would like to say more, but you need to read the book. No spoil alerts here.

Great book, interesting story

Since medical dramas are one of my favorite genres I have to say that this book has been a real treat. I loved the story, the second chance part and the main characters. I really enjoyed the fact that I found an unpredictable twist that followed one of the characters. I don’t want to give to much away for those who haven’t read it yet.
This was my first audiobook so that took a bit of time to get used to. The narrator was very good but I did not care for her narration of accents.
All in all this is a must read for all of you who like adventure, doctors and girl drama.
