Story
In his first-ever Doctor Who novel, Tom Baker’s incredible imagination is given free rein. A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost 40 years in the making. The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures - hideous scarecrows who are preying on the local population. The islanders are living in fear, and the Doctor vows to save them all.

Doctor, doctor
Every time I see an audible book read by Tom Baker, I snatch it up. Here Baker reads and voices his most famous character, the floppy hatted, long scarfed, curly haired Fourth Doctor. Written by Terrance Dicks, this story has many of he same themes as many Doctor Who stories of the time (megalomaniac trying to take over the universe) but Dicks' writing is so taut and well-paced that you tend to overlook the tropes. Fun listen especially with Baker's fantastic range of voices

Frankenstein revisited
All these years and I never knew what a magnificent voice character actor Tom Baker has been! Each character was distinct and I swear I could hear the actual Sarah Jane Smith persona as if 40+ years washed away. The story was a delightful retelling of Frankenstein's monster and the obsession of its creator. There was even a vivid scene of torch bearing hunters chasing down the monster. Going to listen to this again and again.

Vintage Doctor Who: a spine-chilling listen!
The classic TV version of the Morbius story is an homage to Hammer horror - the Doctor does Frankenstein, effectively. It’s brilliant thanks to Tom Baker, who narrates the audiobook and voices Morbius, to chilling effect. It’s a macabre tale, cleverly constructed, short but compelling. And it’s the subject of a forthcoming Backlisted podcast (about old books).

Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Story
