Time: the present. Place: Smalltown, USA. A town like any other. A sleepy world of white picket fences, front porch gliders and freshly mown lawns, a Pontiac or Chevrolet in every driveway. But the streets are empty, with not a sound to be heard, and no one to hear it if there was. It's into this strange world of shifting sands that the TARDIS propels the Doctor and Nardole, who think they're in 1950s suburbia until an apparent nuclear attack takes them into far darker territory, with a series of terrifying consequences.

In his first-ever Doctor Who novel, Tom Baker’s incredible imagination is given free rein. A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost 40 years in the making. The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures - hideous scarecrows who are preying on the local population. Publisher's Summary
Sophie Aldred reads this brand new novelisation of a thrilling screen adventure for the 13th Doctor.
I am an expert on witchcraft, Doctor, but I wish to learn more. Before you die, I want answers.
The TARDIS lands in the Lancashire village of Bilehurst Cragg in the 17th century and the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz soon become embroiled in a witch trial run by the local landowner. Fear stalks the land, and the arrival of King James I only serves to intensify the witch hunt.
But the Doctor soon realises there is something more sinister than paranoia and superstition at work. Tendrils of living mud stir in the ground, and the dead lurch back to horrifying life as an evil alien presence begins to revive.
The Doctor and her friends must save not only the people of Bilehurst Cragg from the wakening forces, but the entire world.
Sophie Aldred, who played Ace in the BBC TV series, reads Joy Wilkinson's novelisation of her own 2018 TV script.
Reading produced by Neil Gardner.
Sound design by David Roocroft.
Executive producer: Michael Stevens.

Worth It
A beautiful expansion upon the television episode. We get to be inside the Doctor’s head during her revelations about seeing the universe through the eyes of a woman. We get to hear more about Yaz and Izzy. We get a moment with Graham. Ryan and the king are a treat. We also learn Becca’s origin story. We learn about the Morax, who imprisoned them, why and how. We also learn about what happens to Willa. Sophie Alfred narrating was just the icing on the cake!

Good story
I listened to the Audible release read by Sophie Aldred.
The books recounts and expands upon the TV story with a lot more of the background. It's well written and read wonderfully by Aldred.
I felt the epilogue after the evil is defeated and TARDIS gone was slightly unnecessary, but overall a good adaptation.
