Publisher's summary

Jaye Griffiths reads this original adventure for the Twelfth Doctor and Clara, as played on TV by Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman.

For Clara Oswald, life has fallen into a routine. By day she teaches the pupils at Coal Hill School, and by night - and at weekends - she travels in Time and Space with the Doctor.

Clara's having the time of her life, enjoying all the thrill and laughter of being with the Doctor - until, one day, there's somebody else.

To Clara's immense shock, the Doctor has acquired a new companion - and Arix is just as at home in the TARDIS as she has been. Suddenly, Clara's world has tilted on its axis.

As the two companions size each other up, the Doctor is caught between them. And when they all wind up in an alien swamp, it's time for a reckoning of grievances, grudges - and bravery.

Jaye Griffiths, who played Jac in the Doctor Who TV series, reads Steve Lyons's compelling and moving character piece.

I Expected More, Narration Poor, Story a bit Weak.

As a Whovian, I really expected a lot more from this story. Part of the problem is the narration by Jaye Griffiths. She's a brilliant actress, but her reading skills left me confused as to who was saying what because of the monotone in her voice. And her fake Scottish accent for the 12th Doctor was just painful to hear. That said, the story itself is a little weird for Doctor Who, and while it had some good parts, it overall had the feel of an utterly forgettable episode. I'm a huge fan of the 12th Doctor and Clara, and I just felt a lot was lacking in this story, especially the recitation of it by the narrator. I think it's priced far too high for what you get and I wish there would have been reviews to make me think twice before purchasing this one, even with a credit. I recommend listening to a sample of it first, and then deciding whether that reading style is what you fancy. It's definitely not the best Audiobook for Doctor Who, or for the 12th Doctor. If you are looking for a good 12th Doctor Story, I recommend "Silhouette" or the Winter family series.

Reverse School Reunion

Something that has happened more than once in the television show, but most prominently in the episode titled School Reunion, is that a current companion meets a former companion of the Doctor's and has to cope with the knowledge that they aren't as special as they used to think they were. This audio tells a similar story with the twist that instead of meeting a previous companion, Clara meets a new one which the Doctor acquired without mentioning it to her. This plays well into the codependent dynamic that the Doctor and Cara have in Series 9 of the TV show, which is where this is set.
