Publisher's Summary

At the age of 26, Tina Swithin was swept off her feet by a modern-day Prince Charming. Married just one year later, Tina soon discovered that there was something seriously wrong with her fairy tale. The marriage was filled with lies, deception, fraud, and many tears. Tina was left in an utter state of confusion. This wasn't the man that she married - was it?

Tina first heard the term narcissistic personality disorder from her therapist in 2008 but quickly dismissed the notion that something could be wrong with her husband. It took several years for Tina to begin researching the disorder, and suddenly the past 10 years of her life made complete sense. Tina soon discovered that there is only one thing more difficult than being married to a narcissist, and that is divorcing a narcissist.

Tina's blog, One Mom's Battle, was created in 2011 to document her struggles with divorcing a narcissist in the California Family Court System. Tina's blog gained international attention and a quarter of a million page views in its first year while appearing on The Huffington Post, Examiner.com, Washington Times and Yahoo.com. Tina's blog has become a support system and a lifeline for thousands of women across the world, and her new book, Divorcing a Narcissist, will take that support system to the next level.

In her book, Tina explains how a smart, independent woman can fall prey to a narcissistic man. Tina discusses the red-flag reflections that she chose to ignore while dating and during the marriage. Tina acted as her own attorney in a divorce that can only be described as hell on Earth, and she will share the strategies that helped her to navigate through this battle while maintaining her sanity and sense of humor.

Informative

I commend Tina Swithin for documenting her journey. The book is insightful about tips and motivating. If you are embarking on a custody battle with a Narcissist, it’s a must have.

great book. very helpful.

really comforting knowing I am not the only one that thinks the court system is crazy! wish the author had narrated it as I would feel more emotion, but I found this book very helpful.

Oddly Comforting/Spot On

I am amidst an incredibly messy divorce and fighting for my three year old daughter. I am battling a heroin addicted, pathologically lying narcissist. I stumbled upon this book and decided to listen since I have a divorce trial in just a few weeks. I thought perhaps there might be some tips and pointers (there were). I found myself unable to turn it off, nodding my head in agreement so often that I got whiplash, and sometimes even crying because I could feel and relate to the authors pain so many times.

Tina could have actually written this book about my ex-husband. It is SO incredibly spot on. It is oddly comforting just to know that I am not the only woman who has become so deceived and fooled by a wolf in sheep’s clothing, that I am not crazy or the villain that my ex tries to paint me to be to his enabling family and friends or the court. Thank you Tina for your courage to put your story into the world. It is terrifying to think there are so many other people in the world who operate the way my ex does, but at least I finally feel understood and comforted in that fact.

I have already purchased her follow up book and intend and starting right away.

great information for someone that understand me

once I started listening I could stop. I had to finish it. Every part of the book I felt understood and felt to follow the author on her website. finally I know that's narcissist behavior is something we must understand especially if married to one and have children with them.

It's not just me. Finally, I have understanding.

I'm so thankful to have found this book. No one understands. No one in 7 years of court gone wrong situations, has a clue. Thank you for sharing your story and inspiration. Lawyers have taken my money and the children and I continue on a rollercoaster. Thank you for your tools and advice on how to better deal with a NPD ex and his family. Thanks for the all your desire to help others and focus on the children's rights. I had all but given up. My battle in court started in 2011 and I just now found you. Forever grateful for your courage to share your story.

Exactly what I am dealing with!!!

Loved the book!!!
I am dealing with so much of the same. Plus my Ex is on serious drugs.
It's very sad the courts do not take mothers more seriously and do more to protect our children.
Thank you for bringing this topic to light and explaining it in a real life common sense way to those that need to hear or are educating themselves on the topic.

A must for contentious custody cases.

I can’t even begin to explain how much this book has helped me. I have listened to it several times during my 5 year custody battle. It has been an integral part of my success and sanity when dealing with my ex and the family court system. Tina, I will never be able to express to you how much your words have impacted me and brought me from a place of despair to a place of hope. Although I’m still in the middle of battle, I now have the strength to endure. Before your book I literally thought I was losing my mind. I was completely disoriented by the actions of my ex and felt helpless by the lack of response I was getting in court. For those who are in the middle of a hostile custody battle this book is a must. Tina’s book “The Narc Decoder” is amazing too!

A good reflection tool

I have mixed feelings about the book, the writer gives a clear description of her experience some of which resonated with me and helped me to reflect on my own experience, other's, not so much. While I have no wish to re-victimise the writer I did honestly get the sense that some parts of the story were dramatised or embellished, for example an account of a pool accident describes how her 7 year old (if I recall correctly?) daughter counted each gulp of water as she desperately tried to keep herself and her sister afloat, I found that implausible, in another part the writer discusses an entry in her daughter's diary, which I didn't feel needed to be shared publicly. All in all it was light on advice, but really helped me a lot and just 'nice' (though nothing nice about narcissism) to know other people are going through similar experiences and you're not alone.
