The story idea had merit as fantasy fiction but that's it. AI narration is never good, but this one was particularly painful: pitch, cadence, timbre were just awful. What merit there was to the story was destroyed by the voice. I would like to have found out if the souls were returned to their spirit palaces and how, and who were the people living deep underground and what were they about, but I just couldn't listen any more. The story itself was probably AI; although, ChatGPT could do better. The romance was stilted, story advancement awkward. It just had no flow. I guess because it was "free" in Audible, I shouldn't complain. This service is expensive enough. I was hoping for better 😞
