Story
A spirited narrative on the fascinating art and science of alcohol, sure to inspire cocktail party chats on making booze, tasting it, and its effects on our bodies and brains. Drinking gets a lot more interesting when you know what's actually inside your glass of microbrewed ale, single-malt whisky, or Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. All of them begin with fermentation, where a fungus called yeast binges on sugar molecules and poops out ethanol. Humans have been drinking the results for 10,000 years. Distillation is a 2,000-year-old technology - invented by a woman - that we're still perfecting today.

The HDW will introduce you to the three basic steps in making your own artisan-crafted spirits: brewing, distilling, and ageing. We will be tackling these steps one by one in a way that will have you saying "I just can’t believe it was that easy." And the truth is that it’s even easier then that. If you can follow a recipe to make a cake then with the help of the HDW you could be making anything from Moonshine to Vodka.

I have no real experience but have been researching home distilling through multiple books. If you are in that category, this is the book for you. I feel I could use this book and a couple youTube videos and make my first run fine. I particularly like the advice in the build-or-buy chapter. This is the 3rd book I've gotten on the topic and this one is the best for me.

Building Your Own Still and Making Your Own Whiske
This book, for the most part, contains information adapted towards refining spirits, so consider this before obtaining. The book contains a couple of samples to take after soul formulas, in spite of the fact that I do see the cluster sizes are somewhat odd to consider most specialists have the standard 6.5-gallon cans, which these formulas won't fit into without change.

Story
Straightforward and opinionated, Short Course in Beer is designed to turn the novice beer lover into an expert imbiber and the casual drinker into an enthusiast. Readers will come to understand the beauty of beer and the sources of its flavor, as well as learn which beers are worth our time and which are not. With tongue in cheek, the author examines beer's historical connections to the Crusades, the Hundred Years' War, and modern-day soccer riots. He talks frankly (and joyfully) about the effects of alcohol on the body and brain, he defends beer from its enemies, and ushers it out of the frat house and into the dining room.

Fred Minnick creates a tasting journey that helps you select barrel-aged bourbons based on your flavor preferences. Using the same tasting principles he offers in his Kentucky Derby Museum classes and as a judge at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Minnick cuts to the chase, dismissing brand marketing and judging only the flavor of the bourbon.
