I love Tim Wise because he is passionate about what he believes in and hearing his read his own words brings that home. speaking the truth is power and he embraces truth in this book !

Remarkably concise

Tim Wise's assessments of the white privilege mindset are razor sharp and laser accurate. His honesty and articulation defy reasonable challenge because he speaks truth to the powers that be.

Knowing what it means to be first…

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to everyone; however, I felt we got a taste of the author’s privilege when he spoke about the Obama presidency. I’m a registered Republican, so I completely understand disagreeing with some Obama’s policies, but I’m also a Black man and I understand what it means to be Black & first. Obama’s actions, or often inaction, made it possible for white America to see a 2nd or even 3rd Black president, something I feel the author may not have understood. To be Black and first is to carry the weight of the future as well as the past. I disagreed with some of Obama’s policies but I’m extremely proud of the man. Other than that, the book was great.

Best book ever!

This book is a great continuation to Dear White America. I was hooked from the start. What an elegant yet in your face way to tell a story. A true story. The story of what we’re living today. I’ve never liked history but through Tim Wise and some other notable authors, I am learning to actually learn from REAL history and enjoy it. I was sad and angry and inspired all at once with this book. As a Mexican-American daughter of immigrant parents, I have to say that this book should be read by ALL. Our society is misinformed or not informed at all and sadly this creates and/or encourages racist people and behaviors. I have the hard copy of this book now as well and I plan to pass this book around to as many people that will read it. I will push my people to read it, to my sons and their fiancé and girlfriend so that they can feel safe and confident that their opinions and stance on so many controversial issues are valid and this will give them the knowledge to share with the rest of the world. My sons and daughters out there trying to make this world better. My heroes. I will also share this book with all my stubborn and I’ll- informed family members and friends in the hope that they will open their eyes to reality and hopefully start to change their ways before it’s too late. As Tim Wise says at the end of this book…”let it at least be said…we did not go quietly.”

Important for everyone!

This book and all the information it delivers can be hard to listen to and difficult to process. But, if you want to learn the history of discrimination and racism in the U.S., it is very helpful. Thank you Tim Wise for not giving up on the rest of us.

Entertaining and informative

I’m a Christian with conservative views so I disagree with some of Tim’s teachings. However I’m socially aware and I know that there are serious disparities in America. Tim does a great job of articulating his thoughts and defending his position whether you agree with him or not. I recommend this book for anyone.
