I’m constantly telling neophyte writers to examine their craft through the lens of other storytelling media. And this book contains some real gems for character behavior. Actors, after all, embody the characters they portray. Judith Weston’s insights for guiding directors to better understand the actor’s process, her tips and methods, can be very useful for writers who can appreciate looking through the other end of the telescope to gain distance, as well as objectivity.

Storytelling is about the people

I understood very little about the directing process before ChatGPT recommended this book. Ask questions and connect deeply with the actors I'm working with. I can't wait to get on set to try these strategies.

Judith Wilson has a frank and in-depth discussion about all things related to directing. Her desire to enable actors, and more importantly to protect the characters in the script, is insightful and brings great clarity to the role of Director.

A very acting-focussed guide to directing. Great anecdotes and examples. A bit repetitive, but that may be a strength for an audiobook.
