Story
From the outside, there was no reason to suspect the family life of young schoolchild Keri was anything but unremarkable. Two loving parents, a backdrop of 1960s Britain; life had provided for her, at least with the riches of modesty. Keri herself however, would often confound teachers with her erratic behaviour, which was at best sullen and withdrawn; at worst violently disruptive. When challenged, she would only exacerbate her growing reputation as a fantasist; weaving terrible tales about the "abuse" she was suffering at the hands of her very creators.

After more than a decade, when sisters Nikki, Sami, and Tori Knotek hear the word mom, it claws like an eagle’s talons, triggering memories that have been their secret since childhood. Until now. For years, behind the closed doors of their farmhouse in Raymond, Washington, their sadistic mother, Shelly, subjected her girls to unimaginable abuse, degradation, torture, and psychic terrors. Through it all, Nikki, Sami, and Tori developed a defiant bond that made them far less vulnerable than Shelly imagined.

Loving and nurturing, she fed and clothed 10-year-old Jade and offered a life free of fear from near constant abuse. Or so Jade thought. As soon as social workers in Lancashire stopped their regular checks on Jade’s progress, Carol turned. Story
I was born and broken in Birkenhead, abused from infancy by a network of every kind of pervert from ‘thinks it’s love’ to ‘show it hurts’. I was unwanted, beaten, sold, swapped, photographed, filmed, left for dead, corrupted, blamed, betrayed, ignored and orphaned. But I was also born with a fire inside me. I call it my Phoenix Fire. I am no victim—that word only describes what happened to me. Nor am I a survivor because that implies I am over it. I am a Phoenix—a work in progress. This is my story....

Story
My Prison without Bars is a courageous and harrowing journey through the catacombs of hell, from the mind and voice of a little girl, living with her own monster underneath her bed. Written in first person, this novel is not a memoir, but more a psychological thriller based on true events; chronicling one woman's attempt to claw her way out of the darkness of Child Sexual Abuse, while struggling to find normal, in a not-so-normal world. It is poignant, dark and graphic; not for the faint of heart.

In this much-publicised third volume, Kat recounts her early-mid teen years; no longer a small child, but a girl on the cusp of adolescence. Still traumatized by her early experiences, but not entirely without that sense of vague hope that is the inalienable property of youth. Now at Duncroft Approved School for “emotionally disturbed girls”, her life had come to resemble that of a prisoner; a good day was a bad one and a bad day was horrific.

Publisher's summary
In this shocking memoir, Cassie Moore gives a very open and honest description of how she suffered and survived a lifetime of abuse. She describes the sexual, physical and emotional abuse she suffered at the hands of her stepfather and mother, who then sold her into marriage at the age of 16; the heartbreak she suffered when she naively left her 22 month old baby behind when she fled to London with the man she fell in love with, only to be abused by him for a further 23 years; the self-loathing, depression and despair she felt during those lonely years; and the enormous sacrifices she had to make to save herself and start a new life.

this is a very heart breaking story, it brings out so many questions of how anyone could ever harm a child. I would strongly recommend to anyone.

STRAIGHT TO MY CORE! HEARTBREAKING AND INSPIRING.
This book went straight to the core of my heart. Made me feel so many emotions. After I read it, I couldn't stop thinking about Cassie. I feel so much anger for all those people who hurt her. It made me think about all others who have been through the same abuses, or who are currently living it. Maybe even under worse circumstances. This book resurfaced a lot of bad memories from my childhood, and abusive relationships through adulthood. Also, helped me understand the "why??" a little better. Every word, every page, was so good, and well written. Ana Clements' narration was flawless, and I had to check twice to make sure she wasn't the Cassie that the book was about. Thank you.. thank you.

Heartbreaking story of a brave soul
It's amazing to hear the abuse that she endures from nearly every aspect of her life. Every relationship - stepfather, husbands, other random strangers/acquaintances and even her very own mother! Heartbreaking to hear her story, but inspiring at the same time. God's blessings to you, Cassie Moore. Thank you for sharing your story.

It's really sad.
I really liked it a lot. It's just so mind blowing the last kid she left with her second husband. Even I knew she wouldn't be getting her back after that little Christmas vacay. No one should have to live a life the way she had to. I wish her the best.

Moving, horrifying and requires patience
This book is very important. There is such honesty within this story that it is invaluable for society and should be read by everyone to raise awareness. I have a deep sympathy for the protagonist but on a selfish level I found this incredible frustrating to listen to. Just when you think things cannot get any worse, another disaster is around the corner.
There were points when I was actually shouting out loud at the audiobook in the car, finding it almost unbearable and unbelievable. The disaster-movie type story continues right up to the bitter end without relief really at any point.
Do not read if you are in a fragile state of mind.

Awful Naration
The absolutely awful narration spoilt this book so much for me. There was no emotion in her voice and the pitch didn’t change at all and no pauses for punctuation.
If the story hadn’t kept me so engaged I would have given up.
In summary the narration let a very good book down terribly.

Inspiring
Inspiring and such raw writing yet so well expressed and written. I think I cried for most of the book sadly but it depends on how much you can relate it was as if parts of it was my life. The anguish and soul crushing lack of love she went through is undeniably heartbreaking and I really do wish her all the happiness in the world thank you for sharing your story Cassie xx

Great story
The long pauses between the chapters got a little frustrating. Apart from that I would have given 5 stars.

A tragedy but a happy ending
Very difficult to hear some parts and I found myself wanting to yell down the phone as she re told her story. An eye opening book and a great ending.

Good
Can be so depressing and can make the listener cranky. Written well and the auditor is captivating. Good book.

Under the cover of anonymity, Paul Saunders courageously tells his shockingly true story of how he and his stepsiblings were repeatedly abused by their mother and stepfather. It doesn’t make “easy” listening, but living through it wasn’t fun, either.

But then, the tragic deaths of her father and grandfather within two years of each other turn her life upside-down.
