Publisher's summary

To save her family from financial ruin, Miss Poppy Garrison accepts an unusual proposition to participate in the New York social season in exchange for her grandmother settling a family loan that has unexpectedly come due. Ill equipped to handle the intricacies of mingling within the New York Four Hundred, Poppy becomes embroiled in one hilarious fiasco after another, doomed to suffer a grand societal failure instead of being deemed the diamond of the first water her grandmother longs for her to become.

Reginald Blackburn, second son of a duke, has been forced to travel to America to help his cousin, Charles Wynn, Earl of Lonsdale, find an American heiress to wed in order to shore up his family estate that is in desperate need of funds. Reginald himself has no interest in finding an heiress to marry, but when Poppy's grandmother asks him to give etiquette lessons to Poppy, he swiftly discovers he may be in for much more than he bargained for.

A good book, but not crazy about the Narrator!

I really enjoy Jen Terano’s books but I have to say this narrator wasn’t my favorite. Not sure I will listen to any further books if this is the narrator.

Overall enjoyable read

For the most part, I enjoyed Diamond in the Rough. The story had good pacing and Turano’s typical humor.

I had two complaints though. First, I was disturbed with how the mental health issue was portrayed. This is likely because I am sensitive about media portrayals of people with mental health problems as dangerous. Second, some of the plot twists have appeared in other books by Jen Turano and I felt like the creativity in this book was not up to her normal standard. That said, I would still recommend this book.

Delightful mishap of a tale

Loved Jen Turano’s writing of this tale of Poppy and her acquired friends, grandparents & nobility as she drives to fulfill her grandmother’s goal of being a Diamond of the First Water.

Narrator did a great job keeping all the voices straight... and trying to affect a British accent .

I’ll enjoy listening to this book again!

such a sweet and charming book!

I really loved this book and thought it was such a good clean story! the characters were great and loved each of them. the plot of the story was also very refreshing and fun to read through! the main lead was strong, beautiful and determined while also not being to much of a feminist. the lead man was also very charming and an actual good guy which i really liked!! definitely recommend this book!!!! i love Jen Turano books and this one is definitely added to my list!!!

Second "read" just as good as the first!

What a fun listen! Although I had already read this novel, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this humorous story again. With a clear voice and good pacing, Andrea Emmes did the narration. She did a good job using different character voices. This story is filled with wonderful characters and it was fun to revisit. I especially enjoyed all the laughs. I was given a copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Another Fantastic Story

Jen Turano once again wowed me with her wonderful and funny story. With quirky and lovable characters and charming mystery, Turano has once again spun a great tale. I really enjoyed the audiobook as the narrator brought the characters to life. Uplifting, upbeat, with a fast pace--don't miss out on this new novel by the Uber-talented Jen Turano!

She's taking New York, and him, by storm!

There are many adjectives that apply to a Jen Turano book. Delightful. Charming. Enchanting. Captivating. Fascinating. Engaging. Lovely. Scrumptious. All of these definitely apply to this Diamond In The Rough who, with the help of a certain English gentleman, is either going to turn into a diamond of the first water or a colossal disgrace during her first society season.

But, oh, Poppy's madcap adventures are so much fun! As is Reginald's amusing attempts to reign her in and save her from herself. I'd swear I say this with every new release, but it's true. Diamond In The Rough is probably my favorite Jen Turano book...so far...or at least until the next American Heiresses book comes out.

I've actually read this book twice. The first time in paperback and again when I got the chance at an audiobook. Yes, the story was familiar the second time through, but in a good way, and the narrator's sprightly voice brought the characters to life in an all new way. Sure, the accents are exactly spot on but she was the perfect choice to narrate the audiobook. The production quality was excellent and did justice to Jen Turano's wonderful story. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Diamond In The Rough, either audiobook or in print.

(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)

Second story in series!

Just when you thought the first story was great, this one turned out more fabulous. Poppy will bring you to tears with her laugh out loud mishaps. This is a must listen to audiobook! The narrator took this story and turned it into a wonderful book with the many voices she did on the many characters.
