Publisher's summary

There is an invisible enemy hunting our teens. An enemy so cunning he is almost completely undetectable, and once he sets out in pursuit of his target, no teen can escape him. How do you protect yourself or your family from an enemy you don't even know exists? Even those who do know about this threat don't know how to protect themselves or their family, so they do nothing.

This isn't something we can keep ignoring. Sexual exploitation of teens is becoming a worldwide plague silently poisoning society - an invisible crime with victims who are not viewed as victims at all. The victims themselves often don't even realize they are victims.

We live our lives thinking we've done everything we can to protect our children from sexual predators, but remain foolishly unaware of the threat that still surrounds us when they grow into teenagers. The most dangerous sexual predators never let you see them coming or let you know that they were even there...and all of your efforts will be lost, as well as your teens, and you won't even realize until it's too late.

Detecting Deceit is a self-help book everyone needs to listen to because this advice is born of real life experience. Every parent, teen, grandparent, brother or sister, friend, caregiver, and educator needs to hear this. Everyone, including you, is at risk of being fooled by a predator just as skilled at deception as professional con artists.

Don't hesitate, LISTEN TO IT NOW!

Would you listen to Detecting Deceit again? Why?

Yes. It had so much information that is so valuable to parents raising kids and wanting to protect them from the horrible predators that are out there and that are never suspected.

Any additional comments?

This book was well researched and well written. I enjoyed hearing from both perspectives, the mother and the father. How heart wrenching to know that it is based on a true story, but I'm so glad the parents were able to use their grief and their heartache to help other people. I will recommend this book to all parents, for I fear that grooming is only getting more and more prevalent in our society and unfortunately, too many people don't take it seriously.

Very Informative

Would you consider the audio edition of Detecting Deceit to be better than the print version?

I personally prefer to read at my own pace but I liked that I could put my headphones in and listen as I did daily activities

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that the famiky was willing to come forward and share the experience and knowledge they had gained to hopefully keep another family from going threw it.

What does Susan Fouche and Eric Dupree bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think hearing it allowed makes it more real. Especially a book like this. It makes what the family endured more personal.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

How many times they thought they had helped and got their daughter back only to have her yanked away again

Any additional comments?

If you have children you need to listen to this book. There was so much about grooming, and I never knew it existed!!!!! Please take the time to inform yourself. Very well written and combines this family's heartbreaking experience with the knowledge they gained in researching grooming.

Thank you Susan and Eric! My Facebook Post:

Since 2010, I have taught teenagers in five different counties in Tennessee. In every year of teaching, I have had at least one student (that I knew of) who was a victim of sexual abuse. Most of these students shared this information with me in journal entries for class. And every time this happens I must report it. Some were victimized by a close relative, an authority figure, and some were rescued from trafficking. It easy to believe our teenagers are safe because we take them to church or know their friends. However, what we view as safeguards predators view as opportunities. And in this age of smart devices and social media apps, teens are more vulnerable than ever.
I highly recommend this book for EVERY PARENT of teenagers and preteens (not to mention, pastors and youth group leaders). Some chapters can seem extreme, but throughout this book there is vital information every parent should know to protect their child during these
most vulnerable years of their lives.

Captured

Like a good movie that captures you within the first few scenes, Detecting Deceit accomplished that within the first few pages. The mention that is based on real events turns this book into a must-read. As a parent, it is important to be vigilant and pro-active.

First of Many

If you could sum up Detecting Deceit in three words, what would they be?

This is a book I needed to read forty years ago.

What other book might you compare Detecting Deceit to and why?

I am hoping that this will start a trend of similar books; there is nothing out there like this today.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and then backed it up to listen again.

Any additional comments?

This absolutely is useful for people who don't have modern media as a factor. I was gobsmacked at how clearly the authors described what happened in the social bullseye around the abuser and victims.
