Publisher's summary

Stone Barrington faces down danger on New York's mean streets in the latest thriller from perennial fan favorite Stuart Woods.

Upon returning to the states from a European jaunt, Stone Barrington makes the acquaintance of a stunning woman who seems like she could be an ideal candidate to meet some of his professional - and personal - needs. Before long, though, Stone is put to the task of protecting his new hire when New York City is rocked by a series of disturbing crimes, and it looks as if she might be the next target.

In the city that never sleeps there's always a plot being hatched, and the only recourse is constant vigilance and a bit of luck. But if those defensive systems fail, Stone will have to go head to head against some of the most dastardly scum he's ever faced....

Very interesting books

I love reading about this story line. Hope they will have more about his son in them. Have enjoyed each and every one of them.

Return to great

this was a wild ride! This was a classic Stone Barrington mystery with multiple story line. This is why I liked these novels. The author had moved away in recent novels but this returned him to greatness.

Typical Stone Barrington (Good Thing!)

Been attempting to catch back up on my Stuart Woods collection after a couple years hiatus. Haven't been disappointed! Keep up the good work Mr. Woods!

Stellar continuation of the Stone saga

Many authors end up rehashing old material after just a few novels. This is more like Robert B. Parker's series with Spenser, which was turned into a TV series (Spenser for Hire). Recapping is necessary to make it a viable standalone, but Stuart Woods has done great avoiding the rehash trap. Where Woods fails is allowing his personal political jabs forever cemented into his work. It doesn't matter to me what he thinks. Writing fiction work should avoid real life scenarios. I take no personal offense at his incidental lapse of judgment as he has a track record of otherwise talented writing. I know of several avid Barrington fans who have made their last purchase of Woods' work. For me, I'm too open minded to actually disagree with his comment on Trump. On the flipside, I would equally agree with it had it been about any other Presidential contender throughout any of the elections. once is a faux pas. The next occurrence is a sign that Woods' creativity has run its course and it's time to look elsewhere for entertainment. If I wanted biased opinions on politics, there's not a single news channel that I could tune in to that would fail to deliver without having to pay specifically for. I buy these books to avoid that altogether. I love every book by Woods so far, even in the other series that sets background for the supporting characters along with the standalone novels. However, if this is the beginning of a platform for political bashing, it doesn't matter which side of the aisle, it'll be the last piece of Stuart Woods' work that I ever purchase.
With that said, the story itself was still great and continues to impress. Please keep up the good work and keep it fictional. It's every bit as believable and less polarizing to the audience that way. Good job!

unfinished book by choice

Too much Smith and foul language. He used to write good Mystery Stories, now just Cheesy ones. Too bad..

Enjoyed the story, but......

I enjoyed the story, but it was like watching a black and white detective movie. In this case, the super rich characters are in their high class everything, houses, apartments, cars, clothes, etc., very well and politely spoken, except for the F-bomb a couple of times (+ one, or two, other "bad words"). Also martini, bourbon, cognac, and wine, etc., daily (like my alcoholic parents), and jumping into bed with each other in-between those beverages. Good for them, except Tony Roberts' voice makes the characters sound like their at least in their 80s (otherwise I do like Tony Roberts voice), and I just can't Invision anything sexy about Stone or his lady friends. Nevertheless, I'm going to try another Stuart Woods book. Let's see how that goes.
