The cognitive story behind a simple act of aggression. How our brain is essentially stuck in the Stone Age, struggling to deal with the complexity and pressures of modern life. And how an ongoing battle between our twin cognitive systems - our fast and slow thinking brains - lies behind much that goes wrong in our lives.

We enter the Magic Lab, where science and magic meets. We explore how the brain is prey to a whole range of cognitive defaults and errors which impair our ability to make choices which are in our best interests. Derren reveals the mistakes our brains make, but also identifies ways to avoid them – including the cunning Decoy Effect, which causes excessive popcorn consumption.

Our brain is a machine for jumping to conclusions. Derren reveals how the Halo Effect, Anchoring and Confirmation Bias distort our ability to judge one another – when interviewing someone for a job for example. Basically a summary of "Thinking, Fast and Slow"

Derren Brown is a good performer and this was definitely a much easier way to get most of the topics from "Thinking, Fast and Slow". I've already listened to the book and still enjoyed this podcast version. The second half has more ideas in the same spirit from other sources and if you want to learn more about how your brain works, you'd truly enjoy this.

What can I say? Classic Derren Entertainment

Derren never fails to amaze me with his mind tricks and astonishing psychological experiments. Even though he’s his own worst critic, he is in my view one of the most gifted people in entertainment and retaining people’s attention whilst mesmerizing them with his magic & charm. Boot Camp is the perfect blend of wit and fascinating data with a hint of mystery delivered in a tongue-in-cheek manner. Love it!

Derren never disappoints

Awesome as always, funny, interesting and informative ! I have been a huge fan since 2008, I’ve seen him live in Glasgow and pretty much watched every show. Now I am onto his audiobooks and still after all this time he comes up with incredible content.

Should be required listening for anyone with a brain

I’ve admired Derren Brown’s observations on the human mind through his various tv programs for years. But this deeper dive into the finer points of human psychology was especially interesting to listen to, as well as greatly entertaining. The combination of Derren’s storytelling and the additions from experts in the pertinent fields made for a very enjoyable listening experience. Gave me quite a lot to ponder afterward.

Derren retells Thinking Fast And Slow with jokes

This was an enjoyable podcast, but a "boot camp" it is not. It's just Derren rehashing all the stuff you can easily learn from one or two popular science books on cognitive blind spots and throwing in some of his jokes for good measure. The jokes did make me chuckle.

Not helpful

I thought this would give me activities or methods on how to train my brain, instead it’s just information about neurological aspects and studies about brain activity. Interesting if you want to know about grey matter, not helpful if you’re looking to control it.

Brilliantly beneficial. I highly recommend!

Witty, engaging, and beneficial.

I have previously read and listened to Darren Brown's book "Happy", and found that to be illuminating and profoundly helpful. This series is completely separate, but also a lovely addition to that. It identifies and breaks down our thought processes, helping us to take control of making decisions and so live a more conscious life. With pandemic life becoming quite a grind for me, it was the perfect time to listen to this and regain authorship. Plus, the episodes are just the right length and very well produced. Thank you, Derren.

Excellent

Really interesting & engaging. Even though I was already familiar with many of the ideas, it gave me new insights and was presented in a entertaining away.
It would have been 5 stars if I hadn't found the background music/ sound effects so annoying.

Confusing

The infomation is great but the process is poor - it took a long time to work out how to listen to the audios - then I am stuck at 3 - is this the whole series? - no explanation as to how you progress to more - I am confused - I like DB - I like what he does on TV - it is very entertaining and he has clearly focussed on enhancing his ability - whether it is through memory enhancement - or capability of coping with higher pain - but I am puzzled by the setup of this audio series- help

Informative, Fascinating, Entertaining.

Compelling listening. Science made palatable.. I've enjoyed listening to this audio book 3 times so far & gaining new & clearer insights each time.

Whilst I'm already familiar with some of the facts & experiments referred to this presentation gave me an entertaining & refreshing perspective.

Succinct and Oh so so interesting

A wonderful listen and one the best presentations I have listened to in over a decade.
The narrator and author did an outstanding job of interweaving facts, practical applications and examples that
held my attention from beginning to end in one session.

Good

Captivating story telling, and good use of different speakers to give further perspective

Could have done with more regular summaries in order to better consolidate the information. I was driving whilst listening to it and some of the activities weren't possible, and it was hard to retain the info without more regular summaries.
interesting podcast nonetheless, would listen if there were more additions
