Publisher's summary

Four years ago, Alex, a second son, had planned a life together with Lady Patience. However, when Patience was betrothed to his brother, the heir, Alex left his family's estate and joined the military. Alex returns to assume the title Duke of Bedford when his brother unexpectedly dies. He is unprepared for both his new responsibilities and the reunion with Patience. The horrors of war are a heavy burden, and when he learns that Patience never married his brother, he is stunned.

Patience withstood the bullying of her fiance and her father for four long years. She refuses to marry Alex just because he's the duke, especially if he no longer loves her. How would that be better than what she has already endured? Promises made in their youth are not enough to overcome the changes life has wrought for them, but love can grow and transform - if only Patience could believe that.

Contains mature themes.

Slow and Stupid

I like the normal cliche of this genre but come on. The plot had potential but it was slow and the heroine was ridiculous. I wish the guy wouldnt have married her. He was too good for her.

Fun romance stories with a bit of a twist.

I enjoyed the first three books but had to speed them up a bit. If these had a better narrator I think they would have been so much more entertaining.

A bad romance that sound like it's read by AI

I have listened to a couple of Callie Hutton's books and enjoyed them, but this one was just bad, bad, bad! It's had a promising start but neither character really grew as a person and their "love" seems to have been based mostly on the physical (I'm cool with the steamy scenes but there needs to be a little more going on!). By the end of the story the hero is still an overbearing jerk that only restrains himself when he friends point out how terrible his ideas are. They have to give him step by step instructions on how not to eff things up even worse (doesn't bode well for any future problems the couple may have). The heroine believes that, in addition to him being an overbearing jerk to her, he has done something so reprehensible that she never wants to see him again. But that lasts a whole two weeks before her lust for his body makes all her scruples disappear. Pathetic. Neither one really learns their lesson and I could not have been less invested in their story by the final chapters.

Narrator and story both bad

I usually like this author but this story was trite and boring. I’m not sure why this narrator gets so much work as she is truly awful.

The worst narration I have ever heard

Write your review
Unskillful pedantic writing, atrocious robotic narration, imbecilic storytelling. I'm sorry I have enjoyed some of Callie Huttons writing, but not this.

Mehh

I loved the other two in this series BUT this one was lacking for me. The woman Patience was sort of annoying, immature and ignorant. She wanted to be treated like an adult but did nothing to help herself. The story started off good then fell flat

Please get a different narrartor

Definitely was not my favorite by Ms Hutton. The story had so much potential when it began but it quickly went down hill. The parents where crap. And I felt bad for the lead characters being cheated out of love even though she was literally 16 but considering the style I suppose I will ignore the age difference since that was apparently customary during that time. But the heroine grated on my last never the entire second half of the story. And let’s not get me started on the NARRATION!!! I had to speed it up to be able to make it through the whole book.

Horrible Narration, decent book

The Narration was not good for this book. Honestly I’m not so picky about narration but this was bad lol

Some nasty characters here.

The story is tolerably good, but the first one in the series is much better. The parents in this book are terrible, and unfortunately realistic.
Increasing the speed of the dialogue helps if for no other reason than it shortens the listening time. I'm looking forward to reading the remaining books because I liked other books by this author.
