For vores nye gæst ligner den datter, vi har mistet, på en prik. Og det er netop derfor, jeg valgte hende.
Fra det øjeblik vores udvekslingsstudent Tanya flytter ind i vores hjem, har jeg det, som om jeg har fået min datter igen. Tanya ligner med sit lange blonde hår og sin slanke figur Anabel så meget, at jeg nogle gange næsten kan lade, som om hun ikke døde i den tragiske ulykke.
Tanya er virkelig den perfekte gæst – venlig, høflig og altid klar på at hjælpe til i køkkenet. Omsider har jeg fået et familiemedlem, der sætter pris på mit smukke hus og nyder mine hjemmelavede måltider. Og når hun spørger ind til mit liv, føler jeg, at jeg endelig har fundet én, som jeg kan betro mig til.
Min yngre teenagedatter, Paige, er ikke så glad for vores gæst. Hun insisterer på, at jeg undersøger Tanyas baggrund nærmere. Hun er overbevist om, at Tanya ikke er den, hun siger, hun er. Men jeg lærte allerede for længe siden, at det nogle gange er bedst ikke at stille spørgsmål, som man ikke har lyst til at kende svaret på.
