Publisher's summary

Amber's succubus desires are driving her, as well as every man within a five-mile radius, crazy and Irix, the sexy incubus sent to tutor her, isn't helping one bit. Determined to find some balance in her life, as well as get away from his tempting presence, she escapes to visit a college friend in New Orleans.

But the Big Easy is anything but peaceful. Two powerful witch covens are battling for control of the mighty river and the potent ley lines that run through the city. Amber discovers her half-elven heritage may just resolve their differences, but the covens have other, more lethal, ideas. She knows she can restore the elemental energy to balance, but it's not easy to play peacemaker when her succubus side wants to drown the whole city in a tide of lust.

The tensions between the covens aren't her only trouble. There's nowhere Amber can run to escape the siren-call of her demon nature, and nowhere she can run to escape the seductive incubus who won't seem to take no for an answer.

Spin off from the Imp series.

A spin off from the Imp series, so I recommend listening to that series first. I actually like the Imp series better, only because there is more humor in those books. If you know anything about the Imp series then you know Debra Dunbar holds nothing back in the sometime distasteful and very sexual department. This wasn't a bad book but if succubus/incubus life styles bug you don't read this book. Although Amber tries to fight her demon half she is slowly starving herself and Irix will not tolerate that. So there is a battle of wills going on between the two. I did like this book but I didn't love it, I will probably read the next book. Narrator is okay, but it did take me a bit to get use to her.

Amber

Don't get why the change in characteristics of amber from the original series. I find quite a bit through out the story I was getting annoyed at how she reacted to situations. It pretty much made the story unlikable

Any additional comments?

First off I love the Imp series so I had to read this. The story was ok, overall liked it. The feelings\beliefs of the main character were repeated constantly and that got annoying. It got good at the end but it was a little slow to get there. Not as much humour as the imp series. Narrator was ok but would probably be better if there was more humour\personality to the characters. I'll listen to the next one but i hope the next one gets better.

Good story

Liked the characters and story plot but the narrator's voice is VERY whiny. Had a hard time finishing because of this.

Demons, and witches, and elves, oh my!

In general, I love Hollie's reading style: first, the tone and cadence of her voice is pleasant; overall, there is something in her delivery that has a sort of light and punchy sound (akin to tongue-in-cheek), which contributes wit, charm, and humor to the narrative, but she also excels at conveying deeper, more serious emotions. I believe she really brought these characters to life.

That being said, some of the peripheral characters felt a little flat to me, but this, of course, was due to the writing, not the narration. There were times the story felt hectic, too, and not in a way that served the mood, or plot; it just seemed a little off-kilter. I can't decide if it's the protagonist who has ADD, or if it's just the author who has ADD. Even though the story wasn't non-linear, I sometimes got the feeling of distraction, as if the protagonist could be on her way to the store for milk, and we would suddenly see her playing with goats in a petting zoo.

Also, her inner conflicts--both in regard to her identity/purpose, and in regard to her anxiety about her feelings for Irix--seemed a tad inconsistent. Sure, the purpose of inner conflicts is for the character to progress through an evolution of emotions, but this seemed less like a progression than a bipolar shift.

Overall, though, the author succeeded in piquing my interest enough that I may consider moving on in this series at some point, though, I must admit, I am not necessarily clamoring for the next book. I liked the characters enough to feel mild curiosity about what their futures hold, but I'm not on pins and needles, just dying to know what happens next.

It may start slow but it doesn't stay that way

Who was your favorite character and why?

My Fav.. character would be Irix and not just because he's an incubus. He has a voice in this book, Debra has done a great job bringing this person's character out and made his image 3 dementional

What does Hollie Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I've listened to many of Hollie's work and this one is one of her better jobs. She is wonderful in how she brings each person out so it's easy to figure out who's talking and who they may be speaking about.

Any additional comments?

I you like the Imp series then you will very much like this off shoot. It has the same witty banter, quick action, and will have you laughing and talking to the characters soon after you start listening.

Not actually audible only

Not the sort of book that I feel the need to listen to again, but not bad. However, you can totally get this audiobook somewhere other than audible.

Awful

This was awful. I couldn't finish. The main character Amber was infuriating. She was so far up on her high horse most of the book that we are expected to believe she was not a virgin and went to sex clubs. The demon wanted her to have sex with any one and everyone but didn't like her swearing give me a break. She was so bad I actually wanted her to fail or even better be hit by a bus.

Who doesn't love a demon?

I bought this book on Audible, and I think the narrator made it much more enjoyable for me.

In my mind, it isn't a traditional romance, more of an erotica. Amber, the main lead, fooled around with more men than the actual male lead. I mean, she is a succubus, so no surprise her sex drive would be so amped, but I was disappointed there wasn't more sexual interaction between Amber and Irix. Either way, it was a good "listen", since it was an audio book. A lot of the book revolved around Amber facing her half-succubus side, with a visit to Hell. Both of the main characters were well developed and interesting, and Amber's friend was really interesting. If her friend gets a book, I would probably read that!

Overall, a good listen!
